Things like this happen, sometimes. This is one of those times.
Is 3600rpm a wicked high rpm for Don's diesel? Lucy, our 7275, is governed for 23, 25, somewhere in that area.

Heh, heh, heh, did it again. (Turned the page for Don).

There's times I like this job.

Frank, the RPMs on that 1512 will be fine, but unlike an aircooled engine he'll be able to operate at partial throttle without issues as well, a nice "plus".

Part of the reason the newer tractors have lower governed speeds is to have ASAE spec pto speeds of 540 etc, but primarily the driving force is emissions.

To meet interim emissions tiers, it was (is) common for mfrs to drop rpms a bit to regain cleaner engines. We did that when Kohler bought the Lombardini diesel line, we had to derate several in order to meet Tier III standards on some models. A cheap way to pass.

Well guys I had a good day here. I was up at 5.30 am and in the shop working on my 1512 D and this is what I got done.

Found new spring at the local hardware store so the side panels are installed.

184312.jpg

I had a crack where the exhaust and the hood meet so I mixed up some PC 7 and will try that as a repair. It is drillable and it can be tapped and treads added when set,it is good stuf lol. so i`am going to give it a try.

I just finished installing new groove pins and i`am real happy with them. they have a score mark that widens from one end to the other and a tapered end to insert them. I pounded them in with a multi angle swing press(hammer LOL )and peaned them, now i`am installing the drive shaft and jacking up the tractor and test and set the trunion.Tomorrow will be tin time and soon seat time for me. we are getting snow all day and I might have to put the snow blade off my 149 on and chains and give this a little working befote I change the oil again. later Don T

Please (no ) posts that there is and was a better way to make up a drive shaft. If I had the cash to spend I would have had a new shaft made up splined.I know this is going to be plenty strong for an old man like me who won`t be popping wheeles and such abuse.I have learned that gentle and slow is the way to go. Later Don T

Don, I've never heard this one before: "multi angle swing press", that's funny!

Years ago, at my company they were known as 'impact pin setters'. (Tapered pins, but smaller than what Don used on his steering)
Multi Angle Swing Press...something to inspire ones imagination of useful tools to own.

Don, I have one suggestion for the driveshaft....

Be Proud of your work! You went in unproven ground and built a great driveshaft design! Congrats! Did you run it with the shaft in place?

Glad you liked the groove pins.}

Thanks guys. I`am in the dog house here lol. I was suppose to take the wife out for supper and a movie

. when I got the shaft around 3 this afternoon I went home and started to put it in front started and three bolts snug in the back. HEHE open comes the 12' garage door and one well not happy wife.

I know i`am gona love that diesel as much as my 149,O and the 129 Loader. Life is good. later Don

Frank , Its back in and I will rember that for the next time it comes out for helicoil lol there. studs in stead of bolts would have been better for installing. Now I set the trunion at the mark on the plate with the brake set. so i will see in a sec what needs an adjustment later Don

For safety I have the rear tires 4" off the floor on stands and my jack...

Kendell Ide
