Thanks for the suggestion. That has been pointed out to me already - I guess I need to start looking for a high resolution picture of an Original (though I'm no fan of the Original - it should be included for the 50th anniversary).

Never used one of those Log Blasters... everyone I talk to on antoher forum reccomends the Fiskars Super Splitter. They are suppose to be comming out with a longer handled version and I'm going to get it when it releases. I always wanted to try and adapt a splitter to a cub, saw those unicorn thingies but always thought they looked dangerous and not as effective. But by the sounds of it they work alright then? I often wondered about fabricating a splitter and running a pump off the front pto. I mean most 22-ton splitter are only using what, 5 or 6 hp?

For now, I split everything by hand. Rented a splitter once when I had a couple rows of stuff set aside I couldnt split, and a fresh 1.5 cords on the truck. Otherwise when its just a truckload or partial truckload here and there when I run to the farm it gets split by hand.

Tristan, the Log Blaster works great! It is a bit heavy but that helps it work IMO. Regarding a Cub Cadet based log splitter, I hate the thought of a Cub's engine just setting there running a log splitter, seems like a waste to me... I prefer a dedicated log splitter. I have a Speeco 22 ton that I bought in 2009. I had been renting and borrowing but finally bought one. The photos I posted earlier below are screen captures of a video my sister took of me splitting wood up at the family cabin over Labor Day weekend. Not worth hauling the log splitter up for just a little firewood.

To keep this somewhat on-topic, I need to haul my Cub Cadet up to the cabin to mow the lawn and the trails through the woods.

Thankfully I do not have to deal with serious heating here. AC is another issue. Probably cost's me the same to keep things cool here although it was a Chamber of Commerce day here as many Florida boys wll chime in on. I got alot of parts painted in primer today, the Rusty 149 will live again.

Dennis.......... the outsoursed SKF seal went in great and where it lays on the shaft makes me feel good about the sealing.
 
DAD built the only splitter I've ever been around. stage pump, 4" or 5" x 24" cylinder, some sort of 5-6 HP engine, B&S or Techumseh. With four of use, Brother-in-law rolling pieces to Dad, Dad loading & running the splitter, and SON when he was about 8-10 yrs old handling me the split wood we filled my pickup bed level full in MAYBE fifteen minutes.

It was some sort of kit from Northern, hyd. was filled with Hy-Tran of course, probably why it worked so well. Never really heard but susprect Dad sold it to someone, made a bit of money I hope.
 
Has anyone found any issues with buing an after marker starter generator for the narrow frames. I purchased one for my 126 and it seems like I would have to get a shorter belt to make it fit. When I had asked the company they said that this is the only one that they sell.
 
Anthony I am one for using OEM parts, but if your belt is not fitting you need to measure the dimesions of the S/G and pully and compare to the factory Delco.

There's 2 S/G's for Cubs.
The narrow frame only is PN/ IH-330820-Z or IH-1101996 and is a Delco 1101691, 1101996.

The wide frame OR narrow frame one is PN/ IH-330820-Z or IH-1101997 and is a Delco 1101692, 967, 996, 997.

The angle of the end brackets on both are angled different.
That's basically the only difference in the 2, so yes you would have to get a shorter belt if you bought the wrong one for your 126.
Just get a 1 or 2" shorter belt and you'll be good to go.

You can't buy S/G's from Cub Cadet anymore, they are NLA, so it's after market or nothin, other than rebuilding.

I use this little log splitter.

It has a 8hp kohler,4x24"ram,and it has a 10"x10"7' I beam as a base.It is 8' long,and has a rear end out of a Chevy citation as a base.The tank is a 3' section of the I beam.Sits about 26" high and weighs about 800lbs.Looks like they used snow plow blades as a staging area for the logs.

Great to see you finally. Only a guess its been seeing them eyes looking over the fence lol. I will tell you a little trick in splitting wood with an axe . Lean ahead and raise up on your toes and hit the wood. you will stick the axe in the wood block with little effort.Its all in the balance.I will be posting pictures of my 125 that will be getting a rebuilt K in next week. That will give me every Cub running, Its taken some time but I`ll get er done guys. Charlie must be still splitting some wood lol ,, things are some quiet here !

Have a question on my 128 I was looking at Partstree.com and it looks like the 128 could use a deck from 38" to 50" my question is there a way to find out what my 128 came out with under it for a mower deck? What about front and rear wheels and tires I have found 2 different types, what was the standard wheels and tire sizes on these 128 Cub's and mine has the rear lift assembly, but someone has cut the carrier pin arm off for the lift. Can I use a standard wide frame unit on this tractor? Need help, want to make it as close as posssible to factory. Hope to post picture soon if no rain.
I also picked up a 1000 today with minor problems, do these use same parts as 1200 and up in Cadet tractors?
 
Anthony, also check the size of the pulley. I believe the older engines without the compression release used a smaller pulley to get enough power to turn the engine over.

Just try looking up your tractor under parts look up and see what was available for that model.That should fill in a few blanks for you as to what works and what you need to make it work.good luck with your tractor.

My father bought a 128 in '73. He was a "thrifty" person so the tractor came standard. It had the smaller front tires meaning the wider tires were optional. It's my understanding the 128 came with either the 38", 42", or 48" square decks. I don't think the serial number says anything about accessories which is what you're asking if I understand correctly. Charlie, Kraig, or some of the others will know this for sure. As far as the lift goes, are you speaking of the 1" pin? I can't understand why someone would cut this off because it is just a 1" pin held in by only a cotter pin. The 128 is a wide frame so anything that pertains to a wide frame for that period should fit your tractor. You can also use the later made 44" and 50" but the pulley brackets need to have the angle for the offset drive pulley on the deck itself.

We are finally having some chilly nights here in the Carolinas. It got down to around 50* here last night. That's cold for us southerners. We had one heck of a rain come through this past week. Some areas got close to 20 inches in a day and a half. That happened in the eastern end of the state. We only got about 6" here in the middle.

I just reread my post and want to clear something up that might have been confusing. I'm speaking about the pulley brackets I mentioned. These are the idler pulley brackets on the mule drive. The pulleys angle straight back for the earlier decks (and tiller) and angle slightly off center for the 44" and 50" decks. I wasn't finished with my first java yet.
 
The Spirit of 76's belong to my son-in-law and his father. I drove my black off topic 1050 in the parade last Sunday afternoon at the Cory, IN Apple Festival. It was a fun day.
