Well I will take the head off tomorrow or this weekend and see how bad it is if it gets to
expensive it will become a parts tractor for the
102 I hope to aquire. On my 122 I was putting air in a trailer tire and looked up and saw smoke
I thought it was running rich I adjusted the
carb and drove about 400 feet and it died it wasent geting gas I just put a fuel filter on
and cleaned the carb last week so I dont think
anything is wrong there when it died I saw smoke
again so I got down and looked to see a littel
smoke and oil ozing out between the head and block not good. Could the valves be messed up?

What happend to Charlie.

K Ide - Gotcha! Are you gonna share the results of you "IH Cub Cadet sanctioned" test? (Will Charlie buy that as being on-topic?)

Lucas - Keep us posted (with pics, if possible) when you get her opened up. Good luck.

I just today had enough energy to get out of bed after being kicked big time by a super nasty flu bug.
I'll say this to everyone.
If you know anyone that MIGHT have a cold, stay the hell away from them!
We were at someone's house for less than 5 minutes and got this nasty crap!

Charlie -

Glad to hear you're on the mend. Just curious - did you have a flu shot? Or are you a non-believer? Do you know if it was the regular, seasonal flu or the swine flu?

If your tail had a curl, it was swine flu!

Sorry, I know you're not in any mood to appreciate that (lack of) humor, but I couldn't resist. I still crack myself up!

I'm not real knowlegeable about the guts of an engine, but your first step will be to clean it all up. Although the picture you posted as an exmple looks bad, it's possible that it just blew the head gasket and is carboned up. You may as well get a new head gasket right away, too. Take off the oil pan and check the innards, too. Look for anything obvious, like broken parts laying loose in the pan. Rotate the engine to move the piston down and check the cylinder walls. Check for any cracks in the block, too. Small, hairline cracks can be hard to spot, but a clean block will make it much easier. Oh, and check for flat, true surfaces on the head and block.

Now I'll let someone with some real knowledge take over!

(OK, all you experts, what did I miss. Or wrongly advise?)

Rob i use the center tooth on both my tillers. If i don't use the tooth there is a hard strip left where the tooth plows.
On using the bottom mounting holes, this seems to help keep my tiller from coming up on top of the ground and pushing the tractor faster especialy when using a hydro.I have plowed about 2 acres this spring and moved the bracket down and liked it better. I think a lot of the difference in tiller operation is the difference in soil conitions. A hydro don't work well in my garden. But works better in my brothers garden. Just cultivated my corn and potatoes yesterday with the 124 and mowed my lawn with the 169, Very good cub day.
