I got a nice package from my brother today, he stumbled across the original manuals that came with my cub new.

This operators man., shows a wideframe 147, yes 147? Also, covers models 86,106,107,126,127,and147. Could this be a mid-year manual that covered the wideframe "change"?

Still having problems with the close up shots, sorry!

Todd H: The 147 IS a narrow frame. For that one series, IH cut a flared notch in the narrow frame to accept the newly introduced, larger, wider 14 hp Kohler. Wide frames began with the next series, the 86, 108, 109, 128, 129, 149, 169...

PS: The publication date of the Operators Manual is on the back cover.

Myron, yes I know the 147 is a narrow frame. The operators man (pic 1 cover) shows a wideframe 147 model. There are no flares for the 14 hp, such as on the narrow frames. I thought it was interesting that different "series" tractors were in the same operators manual. My man lists models 86,106,107,126,127, and 147 on the cover. Inside the man, most of the info is for the 86,xx8, and xx9 series. The publication date on the back is 7-71.

If I could get some better close ups, I would post a pic of the wideframe 147. Maybe just a misprint, but plain as day it is there. Even though there was never a "wideframe" 147...

Todd, Myron, I believe that "147 decal/listing on a Wide Frame" shows up on more then just the Owner's Manual. I believe it also shows up in a brochure. I might have scans on my work PC from the forum archives.

Steve Y., other then sales brochure cut away views, the only "cut away" view I recall is for the narrow frame spring assist.

The narrow frame 3 point install manual has a section view. Could that be what you are referring to?

WOW! the Farmall H has it's own website??? Must be alot of people out there with long driveways. Cause everyone knows that all an H is good for is to go get the mail. Picked up a nice 149 this week. To keep this on topic.

Charlie, do you have Paul Funk's website handy? I have it on my work PC if you don't, that is if it's still active. Paul had some in progress photos of his custom Cubs. IIRC he also built a mini H.

EDIT: Never mind I found it:

Thanks for the info Kraig. My eyes were starting to hurt... wide to narrow and back again!

Todd, sounds like a book title for a Hobbit on a failed weight loss program....

Kraig, you are amazing -- and Charlie's not bad either. I don't know how you guys keep all that stuff cataloged.

My son has been after me to add the drag saw, articulated cub and loader to that website but I can't seem to get time. I thought when I retired I'd be able to add all that stuff, but I'm too busy building more. Right now I'm trying to make a mower to mow under my barb wire fence.

I still read the Forum every day but don't often respond. It was kinda nice to see a picture of my stuff.

Please Anyone,
i'm relatively new to the cub cadet world. My dad and i recently attained a '61 cub cadet original. and were thinking about using it around the house this winter. Did they originally make a snow blade for this model, or will we have to make our own. I haven't been able to find much about this tractor on the web.
Thanks}

Scott, Lucas, there were spring trip blades available to fit the Original too. They were made for the other series but could be adapted to fit the Original with some drilling. Here is an early version: SPRING TRIP BLADE You will also need to get the proper sub-frame. See the 1961-62 note in this:

BTW, Lucas, Welcome!

Lucas: Welcome to the Forum. This is the web and this site is dedicated to the Original Cub Cadet (1961-1963) and later IH made models.

As others have said, there was a snow blade, as well as a snow blower and a whole bunch of other implements for that model.

Be sure you read the FAQ (click above) and Charlie's Cub FAQ site....Mucho info available.

Lucas,
I forgot to add, Those boxes above from the sponsor could yield a blade... They have used parts too. Also hyou may want to place a WTB ad in the classifieds... HTH

Todd, here's one of the "147 decals on a wide frame" from the archives. This is I believe from the version of the Operator's Manual that you have

Here's the later version, note that it's been altered to read 149.

I believe this one also says 147 on it but I can't find my high resolution version of it.

Todd, any chance you could scan that Operator's Manual for me?

Granted an H isn't the most useful tractor on today's farms with only 24-25 PTO HP but if they weren't such a GREAT tractor why did IH have to build so darn many of them?, something just shy of 400,000! Back when I grew up on the farm in the 60's & early 70's I ran the '39 H & '54 Super H up to the corner 1/4 mile from the house to pickup the paper every night...but then it was always running from having done chores. The 16 mph road gear was MUCH better for that task than the CC 70's 6.8 mph road gear.
RICHARD C. - I don't think I've ever seen that pic of the scale M before. THAT's really a fine piece of workmanship....the proportions are Perfect! Right down to the rear tires, rims, wheels & wheel weights!
And to keep this totally legal....anyone else see Todd Markle's "Yellow & White Pages" in the new RPM? Who'd have ever thought to make a 1/4 & 1/8 scale version of a original Cub Cadet? Todd says they'll actually run when completed. Roy Lee Baker is the builder, well know for building custom "Toys". Now what We need to have someone do is make a Cub Cadet out of a 5488, kinda like the show "BIG". I think Pat Irbeck still has a 5488 in His shop!
