i got a matching kohler for my 100 at an auction. it looks pretty decent and spins nice. still has carb, coil, linkage, etc. i want to try to get this running and learn about these engines and use it for a spare for the 100. i want to make some sort of simple motor stand. i've done some minor mechanical stuff but never small engine. besides a gas tank, i need a starter bracket and starter/gen and belt, voltage regulator and ignition. sound like i'm missing anything? i would probably tackle it like this

pull carb and put into cleaner and rebuild or replace
pull head and clean carbon and sand head flat and new gasket
clean and inspect valves
check for wobble in piston and go from there
replace points condensor and plug and coil wire

any comments welcome.

While the head is off, run the piston to BDC, and view the cylinder walls for scoring. Measure for oval if you can.

I made a "New" engine work / test / run stand last winter, and I love it. I started with a 5 legged roll-a-round office chair base, made a base plate to bolt on it, and drilled for different Kohler Engine patterns. It's easy to turn around to work, rolls a little while running, but not too bad. Now I've started gathering extra chairs to make storage stands for extra engines.. Just roll em out of the way when done.
