I'm pretty sure that's the correct one for a 149. That's the style that was on the all-original 128 I used to have. You can probably replace the bushing in it and it'll be fine. If you have a large tap, cut threads in the old bushing and thread in a bolt and pull it out. The pulley is keyed to the shaft; you may need a pulley puller to remove it.

Welcome to the forum! Glad to see another Tarheel on this site. I just bought a 100 in your area (Locust) a couple of weeks ago.
Concerning your Original, don't get in too big of a hurry. You have got a lot of things you want to accomplish. However,some axle seals should take care of the leaks. One of the sposors at the top of the page could probably fix you right up. Make sure you don't have too much fluid in the tranny.
As for the motor, take off the head and look into the cylinder. If you don't see any marks or gouges, I would say a seal and ring kit would do fine. Again, take your time and do it right the first time. It will be back together before you know it. Now would also be a good time to consider a good paint job. It would be a lot easier to get everything done at once so you can thoroughly enjoy it for years to come!

that back bearing on the back of the starter gen is easy to remove. Find a flat punch or what ever fits the hole on the id of the bearing first. what ever you use can be a lose fit. Next fill the bearing with grease and take the punch (ect) and put it on top of the grease and give it a tap with a hammer.The grease will force that bearing out of the back cover.Did this many times on bearings in cars for the trans input shaft.Good luck

pick you poison,what ever on your Cub you decide to work on do what it needs so it will work when you need it. I have removed the head from a smoking cub that has sit and poured diesel fuel over the rings .some times the rings stick in the piston and don`t ,can`t do what they are there for.New head gasket and while your there why not lap the valves.Just remove the cover and take out the keepers.Ask all the questions you need and if I can help I will.

I can see you have spirit. You have a great cub to get "started" on. I live in the Chapel Hill area and have for over forty years so I'm as Tarheel as they come. This original is probably going to be a start to a disease like situation in your life. It's the perfect model to start with and will probably lead to the acquisition of many more. That's the disease part. At fourteen years of age you have the perfect hobby to keep your mind going in the right direction. You already sound like you have done the research and know what you are planning to acomplish. Pay attention to the links Jeff D. posted then take it slow and easy. You might find you have a long road ahead or at least a road requiring a little more than expected. It will be rewarding in its own way.

I'll probably be asking you questions before long with the enthusiasm you exhibit.

Keep it up and good luck with your newly acquired hobby.

Today after the drive was finished and watered I had a BIG maple cut down close to the house. I just came in the house at 9.30. I have to drive 65 miles in the am with my truck to float a car that belongs to a friend. Then clean up limbs and fire wood from that BIG maple, and water the drive way

The axle seals on the O are still available from cub cadet.They have to be pressed in,to the tranny case or the little spring inside the seal will fly off if you use a hammer,BTDT guess you could pack grease in them before you hit it ....

Yep water the new drive way to cool it so it can set and harden faster.300 deg when it was laid.

Could someone post the ohm values while testing a coil once more? I had them but recently "cleaned" more than I wanted from my computer. I checked the FAQs and tried a search but about 9 million hits came up and I'm getting too old. I'll even just take directions on where I might find them too.

I'll write them down this time.

The Special Duty Equipment brochures show the lever in the back.
 
OMG.... BRYAN MADE A POST!....

If I had to vote on the lever location, I'd want it on the BACK also. Flail mowers can go thru some pretty tall stuff, and with the lever in front, weeds/grass could disengage the mower.
 
William, here's some pictures of my Mott mower. The closeups aren't real good, but maybe they can help you with the mounts. I made some drawings of the shield with all the dimensions for a friend, but I don't have any dimensions for the mounting brackets. If you need them and someone else on the forum doesn't have them, I'll try to get them for you. There's a copy of the manual in the "Manual" section of my website.
