A Cub Cadet carb can have a rubber seat for the float and carb cleaner can cause the rubber to swell out of shape causing all kinds of problems.I use carb cleaner when I have a new kit and air to blow it away.Stabiler is great for gass equipment not used daily.I can leave my Cubs sit for weeks and they will start and run great. Always warm them up and use them. works for me.

Question re. Binder Books & original manuals...

I just dropped close to $150 at Binder Books for manuals for both the tractors (1450 after SN cut, 1650 before…) I picked up in the last 2 weeks. The gentleman who took my order was quite helpful and very easy to work with. I’m looking forward to receiving my purchase.

Having said that, I didn't realize until the end of the call the manuals were reproductions. I didn’t get that impression at all from the website. I was a little surprised by this fact. I don't know what the licensing costs are (he’d mentioned they were license reproductions) - but had assumed that, based on the prices, they were originals. So, since they are not, how much ARE the originals?

Anyone have a source for them? I figure the Binder set will be a good "garage set” for reference, but I'd hope to find originals if possible...

Also, the Binder rep mentioned that the manuals are scanned versions - I ordered them to be shipped as fast as possible, hoping to get them by this weekend to help with some wrenching - so I guess I'll see for myself, but in the mean time, does anyone have comments/feedback on how good the scanning is? I've seen with some technical document reproductions where (especially on drawings) small details, shaded areas, or small font part numbers can be or are impossible to read. I'm just wondering. I see Binder is a sponsor here and don’t want to make any waves (nor do I expect any need to) but again, was just surprised about the fact that they're repros.

Thanks for any input.

Calvin-

The only place to get original manuals is from a dealer auction being closed/auctioned or ebay perhaps. Sometimes they show up there. I bought about $150 worth of original manuals from one auction a few years ago. I've come across a few more here and there.

I bought one reprint manual from Binder and will never spend money on a reprint again. The text was fine, but photocopied pictures are horrible. This was also 7 years ago, so perhaps the quality has improved since then. Now I keep electronic copies of all of the manuals I don't have original manuals for. There's very little I can't figure out with my 86-1650 and early MTD GT manuals.

A year ago I came up with a way to replace that long belt on the tiller I use on my 123. I’d seen where someone else had done a similar thing several years ago.

I bought this pulley system several years ago at a flea market for $10. It had a really nice PTO system on it that I wanted. After taking the PTO system off, I kept the pulley system figuring I’d find a use for it. I used this all last summer with no issues. I’m running two $11 belts on it right now, and, so far, they’ve worked fine.

Hey guys what does a 149 weigh? 48 inch mower deck weight? front dozer blade weight? also a spring trip johnny bucket?
Thank you!

Replacing a KT17 engine with a Magnum 18 in my Cub Cadet 682. What can anyone tell me what I need to know and parts that I'll need? Any help or what I need know would be appreciate.
Thanks,
Wally

Calvin Ledford it would be much cheaper to go to ccmanuals.info/pdf and get free downloads
and print them off then put them in a binder
then your set.

RE: KT to Mag

You will need either a new ignition switch (and some wiring work), or a relay to convert the voltage to run/no voltage to kill coil ignition system on the 682 with the KT to an open to run / ground to kill system to match the Mag 18 magneto ignition.

See attached wiring diagram for details of relay install.

I have done the same conversion on my 782 and it worked out slick with the relay method.

Walter-

I have also used a relay to put an M18 in a 782, and it's much easier than changing the wiring harness and switch.

Am missing what holds the top of the grill in place on a 782? When I got this one there was a piece of haywire holding the sidepanels together as well as the grill in place. Seems like I have a runner. Rings seated quickly and things should heal over now.

i need some QL help for my 1200, It cranks over strong and is getting fuel and feels like it wants to start.
history is it backfired and quit during snowblowing duty. I got it started yesterday (not very easily) it ran fine for 5 minutes then i shut it off and now it wont start back up.
I did change the coil and cleaned the points, (the ignition switch is 6 months old) and hunted for a short none of theses helped. I am wondering if the timing is off but did not find out how to check it (I may be reading over it in the manual) any ideas or suggestions???

Jeff if you have spark at the plug, If it does and your sure it's getting fuel, my moneys on a head gasket. YMMV. You can check your point gap and see if it moved for timeing.

Walter,

In 2007 I had to change my ignition switch on my 782 which has a Magnum 18. That meant adding a relay as Steve wrote. I got the relay and socket/wiring for less than $10 (with shipping) from parts-express.com The 30 Amp relay is their part number 330-070 (a 40 Amp relay is 330-073). The 5-pin relay socket with wires is part number 330-075 or 330-080.

Jerry,

On the 782, the upper grille screen is held in place by the four screws that hold the headlights. The headlights are attached to the four tabs on the grille housing. The grille housing is the heavy aluminum nose of the 82 series. Sometimes these tabs break off. I just made two tabs from sheet aluminum and screwed them to the grille housing so I could mount headlights on my 682. This photo is the inside view of the grille housing and you can see the four tabs I'm writing about.

A long spring connects the right and left side panel.
