I'm a newbie and I've inherited a 1967 122. I'd like to get a snowthrower or a plow for this tractor. Which ones fit? Are any later ones interchangable? Model numbers? Thanks for any input. Rick.

Richard-
Welcome to the forum..

I'll toss some info into the hat, maybe others can correct/contribute where necessary.

Your 122 is considered a "narrow frame" Cub Cadet.

If you're looking for a front mounted snow blade, (you said "plow", but I assume you meant snow blade) then you just need to find someone who has a blade with an "early style narrow frame subframe" on it.

As for snowthrowers, I believe a CC-36 and/or a CW-36 should work. That said, you'll probably want to think about adding a "creeper gearbox" to your tractor if it doesn't already have one as a standard C.C. transmission can go too fast for deep snow removal.

One point I need to make about this is something I am unclear about myself...

I thought I remember hearing that some of the very late 1X2 series tractors came "standard" with the Quick-Attach ("QA") hooks on the front of the frame. (Anyone care to comment here..??) If yours is one of those, you would need a somewhat different blade subframe and could use a QA36/42 or QA36/42A snowthrower.

Art -

I'll jump in on the QA hooks. I've got 214xxx here, a 123, and its just like any other 1x2/3 or 70/100 for that matter. That's not right at the cutoff (218009?) but just information.

I do beleive a QA36/42 will still bolt to an earlier tractor as the holes are there. The same 214xxx 123 came with a QA42.

I would be curious to see a 1x2/3 with obvious factory-QA pegs, and the wire quick bail.

The QA36/42 and QA36A/42A throwers are listed as attachments for the 122, so they must fit. I believe if you remove the QA bracket from the thrower the holes where the QA bracket attached to the thrower will lne up on the tractor frame. There is also a CC-42 thrower listed, although I have never seen one.

I prefer the 42 inch throwers over the 36. The wider path keeps the rear wheels out of the deep snow when making turns.

You don't have to remove anything from the thrower. The QA brackets go on in the same place as they would on a QA tractor, but they need to be bolted on with two bolts on each side. The brackets have the bolt holes in them so they can be put on the older tractors.

I have undercoated my decks on all my mower decks for years. I use the spray on truck bed liner. It has worked good for me, I do live in Arizona where it is dry most of the time. I get a lot of wear from the sand picked up from the grass so I touch them up in the spring.

Attaching a QA36/QA42 snowthrower to a 1x2/3 series Cub Cadet.

Last night I was going to install the engine into K4K but when I lifted it off of the workbench I noticed that there was an oily rust spot under it. I bought this rebuilt/repainted K161 several years ago. The bottom of the engine had never been painted. Oh well, I wiped it down good to get as much of the oil off then with a clean rag I wiped it down good with lacquer thinner, then primed it and painted it. This morning I had taken off from work to cut more firewood, after I finished cutting and stacking I decided I should take a few minutes and install the engine into K4K.

The paint job on this K161 is terrible.

After I make sure it will start and run OK I may have to repaint it, next summer of course.... Or, I could just use it and let it get all oily from the breather like my #2 125.

Mike G., here's a couple more photos of the lift bar for the rear lift.

KRAIG - Making great progress on K4K! I think that nasty paint job was standard from the factory on that K161.

Dustin, it's all slabwood so it takes a while to make a big pile. I'll have to take some recent photos. This wood shelter is full, the garage wood pile is full and I've started on a separate pile behind the shelter. FWIW, the shelter is ~16' long 4' deep and 8' tall at the front.

Denny, it's been repainted, poorly. For instance the Delco plate on the S/G has been painted over.

Kraig,

If by Sunday night I don't read about you starting and driving K4K around the yard....
I'm gonna have a fit!

Really, I wish I could make time to cut some wood, let alone refinish a Cub Cadet right now.

Looks like fun,
Keith

Gee keith, if you want to cut wood come on out. you can try out the new saw.

Hey guys a simple question! Would any other models hoods work on my 106? I wanted to restore mine but the hood is a little rough around the bolt hole on the left side and my grandad welded a big ole chunk galvanized steel on it and although it will never ever ever break there again I wanted to see if something else would work, to make my search a tad easier.

Hello All;... a friend of mine decided to let his 128 lose a balance grenade and now has a ventilated ,running K301! Anybody had any luck repairing a damaged block? A know-it-all at work said there was a weld repair for cast iron, but it's news to me. Any takers?

Here's a new one for me....

Does anybody know why the parts lists show two different mufflers for the 100's?
94806.jpg

I was standing in the garage tonight working on a welding project for work and thought my brain was messing with me as I glanced back and forth between the two 100's I have sitting there.

Was it a certain serial number break at which the mufflers changed?

Art,

I hope one of the experts know for sure, but that second (1x2) muffler shows up in my 10/65 printing of TC-113 which includes the 1x2 series. It shows up as individual parts and as a kit. I wonder if it was offered as a quieter option once the 1x2 series came out. I thought I had an earlier parts book with only the 70/100 in it but I can't find it. So I can't confirm that it did not exist in those earlier books.

Finally got the trailer project almost done!

Garden is almost done too.

Steel frame with recycled aluminum sign stock for sides and deck. Used off-brand lawn tractor wheels. Dumps too.
Will come in handy for leaf and firewood season.
