Todd, the 1535 was a gear drive that also used the cv joint driveshaft.(The 8 ball kind as shown in Digger's parts breakdown) The rear half of the joint is for the 5/8" reduction shaft (round) on a gear drive and will fit on the earlier model hydros w/o any changes(BTDT) It works great!!
Oh,yea,Mac,I have sinned when I mentioned crossbreeding the Cub and (other) brand, sorry ;-)

Is Richard's "Rag joint Fix" in the FAQ's or someplace else?? Would like to check it out.

Thank's Richard for the info. I figured with 2 springs it was set up as a progressive unit,
but wasn't sure.
Charlie, I have lots to learn.

Hello everyone:
I am getting my 129 ready for the snow blower (my first year for the blower). Before I put it on I wanted to make sure that the gear box is ok and has the proper lubricant. I have the service manual but it states to look at the operators manual for the kind and level of the lubricant in the box.
I thought the service manual would have that information, but I am wrong again.
Can some one help me with that information.
I did search the FAQ but I could not find anything.
Thanks again
Earl

A.C.B.....(All Cadet Bulletin).....Be on the look out for F.O.R.D (Felons On Release Driven) vehicle with the following plate:
23116.jpg

It was last seen heading toward the east coast, possibly via Canada with a LOW serial number Cub Cadet.

Security Cams at C&G snapped this pic of the suspect know only as the "professor".

Consider him armed with knowledge and extremely friendly. Approach with caution.....

Charlie, et al-

The 'lovejoy'-type coupling is a pretty universal coupler for electric motors as noted, but they don't recommend any radial or axial displacement (er... crookedness), and they recommend that both ends of the coupling be retained so that the coupler's not responsible for maintaining alignment. In short, if she gives out, the driveshaft (being unsupported) will flail all about, and knock loose all sorts'a parts, including hydro and brake linkages, the lift shaft, the tunnel cover, and the family jewels...

So be careful with them thangs. They're fine for when you've got a close-coupled hydraulic pump running square off the end of the shaft on a bracket-plate...

Apostle Ken-
Your description of that suspect is quite accurate- last time I crossed paths, I found that he was armed-to-the-teeth with a smile, and a veritable arsenal of tools and workspace... er... aside from a full-sized diesel pickup frame parked in his bigger workshop. He's also got a nice cub-shack, well anchored by plenty of quality iron, and a nice spare-parts pile back amidst the pines.

Hey Shultzie-

You missed two... Just about made a double-hood-ornament out'v 'em as I drove into town for pizza tonight. I'll take a couple'a packages of them 3/8" diameter x 10" long deer-sticks, mild please... and if you're willing to cross the Illinois hinterland to the Iowegan coast, I'll toss 'ya my deer tag for a double-fistfull'a sticks...

Does anyone have a parts breakdown sheet for a Cat "O" Brinly plow? Can parts be ordered for one? Looking for some tight shots of one that can be emailed.

Earl,
From this, it says 80 weight, but I've found up here in Minnesota and combination of 90 weight and grease does me fairly well, say 70% 90 weight and 30% grease. I think either one would do you just fine as long as you keep the level up and not run'um dry.

Earl, in the operators manual it calls for a O grade lithium grease, I rebuilt my gearbox last fall and used case-ih multi-purpose lithium grease and worked great, I filled gearbox half full.

I bought a gas tank through ebay and it was supposed to fit all older styles. When I received it, it wouldn't fit. The dimensions are 5x6.25x12.75 and looks like it is for the 104, 105, 106, 107 and maybe the 100 and 102, I can't tell from the parts manual. I think the part number is either a KH 230048 or KH235370. Can anyone help?

Here's another angle on the snowthrower.
QA-36A book 5-79 I think they changed the grease spec. every year.

I'm changing a engine is a 93 Geo Metro. these engines are kinda cute.
23130.jpg

looks like about the right size for a cub. 3 cyl. 55 hp liquid cooled.
in fact if you wanted to get fancy you could have it computorized fuel injection all hooked up to a foot operated TPS,.

I know that "professor" guy. He may try to hide that Cub Cadet among even lower number Cub Cadets to throw you off the trail. He is very good at changing the appearance of "as found Cub Cadets" into something you would not recognize - something that would appear to be like new. Very good indeed.

DON - That engine needs a SUPERCHARGER..... CHARLIE - That coupling looks like a MAGNALLOY coupling. We used to use a LOT of their biggest ones (600 series) on Our machines about 3 jobs ago. We frankly had problems with them.... the MAG part of the name stands for magnesium and the bores wear out in them REAL fast. One engineer even went as far as to bore & shrink in a stainless steel insert into the bore. They differ from a typical LOVEJOY coupling in that the rubber or plastic insert is totally trapped inside the cast coupling. But they still only allow for up to three degrees of misalignment. We were running anywhere from 20 to 40 HP at around 225 rpm thru a 2-1/4 or 2-1/2" dia. shaft. I hope the Owner of the company doesn't sue Me... He's a Lawyer.... We wanted to duplicate His part in 316 Stainless Steel and I talked with Him several times.
