The deeper in I get, THE DEEPER IN I GET.
Just got back from my closest dealer. I asked about a field coil. Showed him this picture. All doom! Wants $200 ($197) for a new one. I'd buy one if I could but this is not a good time. I'd rather trust here. There is some flaking but what can I do to hold off the wolf?

Brad,
I goofed in comparing the 147 to a 149 as both are Hydro, and the 147 has a wide frame engine in a narrow frame.

The reason I asked this question is a neighbor and I were talking about which clutch kit to use. I had rebuilt my 149 clutch with the 759-3489 flat spring kit. But it didn't work because the springs kept slipping off-center, despite the lugs that supposedly would hold them in place, and then the throw-out levers came out of the thrust button slot. I rebuilt the clutch several times with two separate kits with the same result. It was only when I used the narrow frame clutch kit 759-3490 with its bent spring tips that the clutch worked.

I just checked Parts Lookup for the 122 and 125 narrow frames. It calls for the same IH-59983-C1 pulley used on the 149 wide frame, but calls for the 759-3490 clutch kit. So per Cub Cadet the narrow frame clutch kit can be used with the wide frame pulley.

I just throw this out there in case anyone has the same spring slipping problem I had, and it seems using the narrow frame clutch kit is a solution. It's a shame that you can't buy the bent spring separately, but must by the whole $45 kit.

Matt. Sorry, I thought I saw the answer, then lost it, but found it again. High Temp RTV or epoxy. Thanks.

Roy, I don't mean this to be an attack of any kind, The clutch for a 149 has the brake on it, Mabey thats why they went to the flat spring. Did the adjustment nuts come loose, I don't get how you could have one come apart like that.

Need new carb for QL 1450 – any specific model?

I was checking out the 1450 I purchased last week and discovered that the air cleaner housing is slightly loose as one of the 3 screws is stripped and not holding. The carb needs to be rebuilt as well and while I could figure out something for the stripped screw - I'm considering just purchasing a new (or new or used) carb with threads intact. I'm wondering what model I might be looking for? I've noticed that there are a couple of carb manufacturers that were used by IH mentioned throughout the forum. Was there a single manufacturer/model used on the QL tractors? If so, what is the make/model? Do they (new) come assembled, or do you have to purchase all the small pieces? Any suggestions on the best place to find either a good condition used, or new one?

Thanks,

-Calvin

DAVE - Not all 1X8/9 series had PTO brakes, I think only the later ones, last year of production or so.

Here's a comparison photo of three versions of the mechanical PTO. Not sure how many variations there are.

The one on the left has the bent tabs on the triangle spring and is what would typically be found on a Narrow Frame Cub. The two on the right have the lugs for the triangle springs to keep them from slipping. The one on the lower right has the Brake type center button, note also that this one has a double triangle spring.

Roy, the pin on the back side of the center thrust button should hold the triangle spring in alignment with the thrust button. It shouldn't matter if the triangle spring rotates a little.

Are you sure you didn't install the center thrust button backwards? That WOULD cause the problems you are describing...

I`am up to a repair ,adjustments today. I have always had an issue with the front hyrualic pump wearing the belts on one side and not much adjustment to tighten the belt all because I wanted some proction for the pump. Well today was the day.Local black smith has no work and I got things to make better lol. I now have a back balade to use and my loader will be fixed and the 14' tarailer will get a new ramp.
