WAYNE - Marlin would be the EXPERT, since he builds hydro's every day, and has access to the engineers. But I would think you should be able to go as fast in reverse as you can forward.

I suspect there is a limit to output speed, probably stated in the design & engineering spec's for the 15U hyd. motor. Not sure what all the gear reduction is in a hydro rearend but I have a 123 skeleton I could take a peak at if I had to. I doubt the CC hydro is maxed out for speed, but I'm not sure anything faster than the current 8 MPH is prudent.

Dennis-

I suspect Marlin would know. He'll chime in eventually. I'm glad I noticed the lobe difference. I was talking to Don when he pointed out a mark which, after referring to some photos I found the correct orientation. Going 8 mph backwards is about as useful as t*ts on a bull. It might speed up mowing though now that I think about it.

WAYNE - Dad bought a 1963 vintage 6-cyl diesel tractor that was built in Waterloo. IA. It had the "Synchro-Range transmission" as it's only trans option. Eight forward and three reverse gears, think forward speeds were from about 2-1/2 MPH to 17-18 MPH plus the standard foot throttle would run the engine up to 2500 RPM from the normal 2100 to gain another couple MPH.

ANYHOW, reverse speeds were about 2-1/4, 4-1/2, and seven MPH, 7 MPH in reverse. It was actually kinda nice having that gear, just like the high side reverse in a Road-Ranger truck transmission.
There's actually a FORTH reverse in those tractor tranmsissions but you have to cut the dash up to get shifted into it, and it would be about 16-17 MPH.

The forward/reverse shuttle-shift transmissions in most construction equip. actually ran 10-20% faster in reverse than they did forward. Pretty useful actually.

Made a greedy bay purchase . A IH dealer close to home 1964 .Since they use to give these away , I know I have a Addiction

Kraig and Terry, its guys like you that makes this site phenominal. Many thanks for taking so much time and effort to help me with the lift mounting plate. I can now make and fit one as good as the original part.
Kraig, we use metrics this side of the pond but I am old enough to have saved a few non-metric rulers and measuring tapes (from the early sixties when we converted from Imperial) to be able to use both. More often than not I still think in inches and sometimes confuse myself with mm and cm.

Once again many thanks for your usefull information. It is appreciated.

Dennis Thanks!! I knew someone would have the particulars on the plug redrill.

Went shopping today and found some extras for my cubs. Picked up a Brinly plow and cultivator with a Brinly sleeve adapter hooked to each one. Also got an IH front plow with a wide frame carriage and two 6-12 rims. Not bad for one evening. I wonder what would happen if I told the wife?....

Dennis,
I know what you mean. I am trying to figure if a I.R. is justifiable for refurbishing three cubs, or just get by with what I have.

Kenneth,
The sprayer is a Kobalt small gravity feed spray gun (item# 301339). Tried to pull it up on the website and got nothing. Called the store and it came up. Price is 37.96 + tax.

Donald,
Nice find on that IH calendar. Excellent year too! That's the year I discovered America.
