Nice job Norm. You should be VERY proud of that tractor & tiller. Great work. No worrries, I understand about not having anyone to take the shots, my wife thinks I am out to lunch on a good day with Cubs. If I ever ask her to take some action shots again I think she will commit me to the wacko ward!

The power steering system you posted were made for big tractors. But unlike Matt G I think some kind of valve that would transmit the forward and back measurements the cub steering box gives ,to allow us right and left steering, should be engineered to work with a small cylinder that would max its self each direction. There would have to be some kind of variable control working within the limits of the steering box and the full range of motion of the steer tires.That said I try to keep my mind open to new ideas,its been proven that is how we learn or fail. Norm B. I for one definitely think that you should do a complete write-up on "How to convert a non-ported to a ported Hydro". Include everything that you discussed with those tha tyou thanked for all their help. You are the true expert st knowing all about the 15U pump. Now we can all refer to you when someone has a problem with their hydro.

TOM H. - re: spreading the blade subframe. Doesn't take much force to move those bars, I use a smaller version of this, CLICK HERE The jaws are easy to reverse so they push away from each other. They make a heavier-duty version that take smaller "bites" with each pull of the trigger that REALLY clamp hard. You have to be careful using them as welding clamps, the heat of welding melts the anti-marring pads.

RUDY - That style of power-steering is referred to as "Power Assist steering", the assist doesn't start until some force is applied first. It was a common add-on for non-PS equipped tractors 40-50 yrs ago. Dad put Char-Lynn power-assist steering on the jd R I did my frirst field work with. I was about ten yrs old, maybe five ft tall, 80-90 pounds. Steering wheel was two feet in diameter. I still have nightmares about running that POS. We still had the Super M-TA FARMALL that year, but it seemed I ALWAYS got stuck running the R. Those two tractors didn't "Play Well" running together in the same field. The R was slow and clumsy while the M-TA was fast and nimble. Plus the M-TA had the radio and the R didn't.

Does anyone perhaps have a clearer picture, or a sketch with dimensions of the Lift Bar Attaching Plate Assembly? Number 3 in the sketch below.

It will probably be too expensive to import one and I need to make it. I rather not show what the PO used on the 102 tractor I am busy bringing back to life.

Have something that's buggin' me. When I did the 682 to 782 conversion, the lift controls seem backwards to me. I push up on the lever to bring the implement down, down on the lever to raise it. Is that the way it's supposed to be?
 
i am looking at buying front tires for my O

wanting to go to tri-ribs

i have seen out there 3.50-8 and 4.0- 8 tires

anyone got any input on the differences or even pictures with the 2 size tires

just got the seals in for the input and the axles (i found a crossreference number for them and saved a decent chunk of money

Standard is "pull lever" = raise "Push lever" = lower...this generally applies to all hyd. equipment (loaders, farm equipment, etc.)

Dawid, CC Specialties sells that lift bar attaching plate, here's a LINK to a photo of it on CC Specialties website. I have one that I could measure and take more photos of, but it's kind of a complex part...

If you "click" on the sizes, 3.50X8 & 4.00X8 a chart of dimensions as mounted pops up, chart is in millimeters, have to divide number by 25.4 to get inches.

Your frt wheels look really wide, About 4" wide. Mounting tires on wheels wider than the cross section width of the tire is not recommended.

No, I wouldn’t want to take that away from you and, while I will have some understanding of hydros, I will by no means be an expert. But if you want to know who I think the real expert is on hydros, it’s Don Tanner. If you go back through the posts, he has more working knowledge and hands on experience which is what’s needed here. I also think Steve Blunier is knowledgeable also.
I will send my final version of this write-up to Charlie for review shortly and then he can send it to you and others for review.
 
Does the seat that CC Specialties offer for the 982 have the two drain holes? The pic doesn't show them, but it looks exactly like it other wise. Does is also have the steel backing?
I'm sure someone here will know.

OMG Norm I`am not expert on the hydros ! I would have to say that Marlin Homrighausen forgot more than I know .Remember my by line ,1 step forward 2 steps back always ! I know enuf to know what I should not touch . I have never take one apart and did a complete rebuild and don`t think I will ever have to , they are that well made . Expert and my name don`t belong together when it comes to hydro`s or much else !

They are special order from Michigan Seat Co. to IH specs, unlike the knock offs selling on sleezebay.
 
I ran across a CC for sale. It has a 482 hood, but has hydraulics and hydro also, claims the owner. I haven't seen it yet. I didn't think these were options on the 482?
