No the stains on the rubber tire need to be removed. I don`t think JB Weld will help with that lol.I used Spray nine and comet and a stif brush to get most of it off,Open to ideas !

White wall cleaner and take'um to a good car wash and blast'um.
That stuff soaks in deep and will have to be steam/pressure washed. And that might not get it all.

Don T,

I hope you didn't remove that tire from the rim with your back and neck so bad....that is one of the ..if not the hardest jobs...working with cubs...We need you here for a long time and enjoy your input and humor as well....Not trying to meddle in your business, but I know how our wanting to try things too soon usually turns out...not so good.

So, please take care....enjoy the down time....you are too big an asset to this site to only hear from you from time to time....

I do not have an answer on the tire but could pose the ? What about using temp. to your advantage, Hot summer day rubber gets hot or get it cold, not sure just a thought. My first guess would be let them get real cold and then try other wise hot rubber might absorb the stain.

Guys its 6 in the evening here and the temp is 12 c or 52 F , down right balmy lol. I will try my pressure washer and see if I can get more of the stain off . I will have some help to get my 125 back together , a friend offered some help and I will take him up on his offer. My pool is almost free from ice , got to love spring . Have fun and play safe always .

Don T must be feeling better today! That's a good thing. But Don please listen to the sage advise on this site and don't get too active too soon.

On topic...My tire chains broke a brake actuating lever this winter on my 169, Ausco caliper. Are these replaceable as a part IH-57957-C1 or do have to get the whole brake assembly?

INSTEAD or for a short time -

Can I use anther kind of caliper assembly (I've got an H-H already) or should try to get the same kind.

Tom Hill

What part did you damage ? looks the same as 129 and 149 brakes to me . Is the drake rod what is bent ?

Don T, I was so glad to see you have been posting. Take it slow and easy, everything doesn't need to be done right away. Getting my 126 ready to plow in April. I have been keeping Charlie busy.

TOM - I probaby shouldn't say this, but no more than you use the brakes on a hydro I'd put the H&H brake on and see if you can find a good used one some where. The calipers are a different design, but the pads & linkage are the same. IHC liked to have more than one supplier for a part sometimes.

Don,

Charlie has it right...hit those stains with lots of Wesley's Bleach White and a good stiff brush, followed by a pressure washing.

We have used Wesley's for years on toy tractor tires to get them cleaned of paint, dirt, stains, etc. during toy restorations. I have spent more than my fair share of evenings with a stiff brush and a bottle of Bleach White scrubbing ERTL 18.4x38's!!!!

There really is something in the saying "squirrels nest". Is there a way to test/check out a hydro that is not in a running machine? From what I read they are tough and it should be alright. My main concern is that I do not want to tear into it and find myself way over my head.

(Is there a way to test/check out a hydro that is not in a running machine? )

simple answer " NO " , you need fluid hytran running to the pump to test to see if the pump will work. an electric drill could provide power to spin the drive shaft end and moving the trunion will tell you if the pump is working. A rubber hose and a bucket to supply hytran and a drill ( 1/2") and you could test the pump to give forward and back rotation ,but these pumps wine under pressure and you would have to install the pump and work it to know how good it is. my .02

thanks Don T. I am going to gamble and do the old "ASSUME" that it is fine, clean it up, paint it and store it for back up.

Timothy M. Pennell

Yep its most likely good , they are tough , but I would not paint the finned area. The finned area is for heat dissipation and should "not" be painted, Your good to go on the rest if you want to paint it.

Timothy P. Donald T. gave some good perspective. I've a couple of "spare" pumps (don't know why) and I've no idea if they are good or not. I just set them up where they aren't in my way (most of the time). Should the need to call them to active duty arrives then I will simply install and check them over. About taking them apart and fixing them. They aren't that hard should you ever need to. If you are fairly mechanical apt and can change head gaskets on a Kohler, tune it up then you are capable of performing a 15U overhaul if necessary.

Before I do any Cub Cadet stuff today, I need to find/fix (if possible) the latest leak of some fluid inside the engine compartment of the Dakota. I need a government stimulus package to help provide the funds for another truck. Good thing I bought a lottery ticket this morning.

Would the "Westley's Bleach White" be safe to use on mounted tires? In other words, would it harm the painted rim any?
