Thanks Jeff-

That's what I was looking for. I found where it was made between '71 and '74 but couldn't find how to determine the month. I would like to know where to go for this info so I can bookmark it. I have several others yet to identify.

Thanks again...Wayne

Wayne, "2050047U406865" the 205 part of that number means that it's a Cub Cadet. The 047 means it's a model 149, the number after the U is the Serial Number, in this case 406865. The 0 between the 205 and the 047 has no meaning that I'm aware of.

Just an FYI: The model code started with the 73, 1x6/7 series. The Original, 70/100, 71, 1x2/3 and 72, 1x4/5 series do not have any model code in the number on the Serial Number plate.

Kraig is there a page to decode the model number like 047,046 and so on?

Wayne,

More information on your serial #

Kind code is 205, meaning this is an IH made CC garden tractor.

Machine code 0047, meaning your tractor is a
model 149

The U means made in USA

Jim

Kraig: How'd you do that? I knew that info was somewhere, and I think on Jonathan Luckey's site, but that site seems to be down.
Don T.: Glad to see you're still alive and keeping most of our snow over there.

Frank, Myron Bounds has put together a "Model Code" listing. I have it in a notepad file along with some other notes from Myron. If Myron gives me permission I'll post the info. Or better yet hopefully Myron will post it.

Hey Kraig...That listing is no state secret!

I just compiled that list from IH publications available in my Library...Post as needed.

Myron

Myron, OK.

All, here it is, please note that this is still somewhat of a work in progress as evidenced by Myron's notes in here. This was assembled from several emails I've received from Myron:

Hi Kraig....

I like to share info as you may have noticed. No secret "decoders"........:)-)

What follows is info I got some from Ken Updike posting & my own observations: what's here is accurate but as yet I do not want to say its definitive. I may have missed a couple of numbers....

1. IH kind/codes were not used up through the 125.

2: The first three digits of the kind code for Cub Cadets is always 205.

3. The fourth digit may be part of the first three but but I suspect that it was an unused position for four digit model codes. IH never got past three digit model codes (the three immediately preceding the "U". The U, by the way, indicates it was manufactured in the US of A. This was made clear to me when I got to checking some kind codes for the big IH tractors where some were manufactured in Mexico, Canada or Britain as well as the US.

0606 = 782D (CCC continued the Kind/Code system for the Red IH Cub Cadets produced between 1981 & 1985.

0710 = 1572

Note how the model codes changed with the paint for the 82 series. I suspect the codes for the 482 & 582 were 591 & 592 but I do not have either model nor have ever seen one. Note how the long production of the QL series resulted in multiple model codes for each Cub Cadet model & that some of the model codes I am missing can be easily figured out if they were to surface. Its also interesting that the position of the model code digits changed at the beginning of the QL Series. I suspect that the original intent was to vary the model code according to the way it was equiped just as CCC did after they took over in July 1981. I surmise that some IH bigwig didn't like the idea & it wasn't imlemented till they were their own bosses.

I hope this helps you and please help fill in the blanks as you can and let me know.

Myron

. This is WET snow and a bugger to push. I stalled my tractor 6 times at least and what a mess in the drive way from bare dirt before the snow and because of the weight of the snow the blade takes dirt also.I will be glade to use a snow blower next winter. I will snow blow about 1.5" above the drive and hopefuly not damage the drive way.I would post a picture but Charlie will give me heck for the Tractor i`am useing. Later Don T

Charlie, Myron, Kraig, could that list be added to the FAQ?

Thanks again to all of the members with input. It's amazing how one (or two) questions can prompt so many responses. I am once again educated with some more facts about my tractor.

Jeff-
You mentioned this tractor was made in Nov. when in fact I think it was already born. According to the numbers it was made in October if my math serves me right. Thanks for the list; I have it now to work with the others.

NE Ohio had another 6-8" of that white stuff yesterday. Spent a few hours last night pushing it around in mine and two neighbors drives.

Next week we're "suppose to" get a day of heat!!! Just one though, which is better then none. The stuff is getting deep and I'm ready to see green again LOL!

OK guys, one last question since we're on a little serial number kick. I just went to get the s/n off of my 100 according to the pdf manual and it wasn't there. I found a number behind where it said to look but it appears to be the part number of the casting. Can the s/n be somewhere else? The tractor is mostly covered so I couldn't really go over it well. I could get to where the manual points to however. I'm also assuming the number is stamped in vs a tag or plate.

yes, I stand corrected oct. I read the wrong column

Wayne, On the right hand side (sitting on the tractor) right below the frame, is a raised pad. I have taken 3 100's and a 70 apart in the last 6 weeks and every one had the number on that raised pad. You may have to clean the paint off to see it.

Here's a mere observation. While looking for the s/n on the 100 this is the number I found behind where the s/n was suppose to be. I then go to the parts look-up and can't find this part number anywhere. It is upside down on the right side of the reduction housing of the 100 beside the right rear tire. It must have been a case of a changed part number or something. I looked on the transmission case page; where else would it be? I read it as 385058R1

This is the sort of thing that drives idiots like me to be idiots.

Wayne, I don't know a lot of things about these, but it doesn't make a person an idiot. I think the raised pad is below and mabey forward of that number. The pad is mabey an inch square. raised mabey an inch.
