Anybody got a diagram/exploded view of early model wide frame manuel lift lever. I need to work on the little float button thingy. Thanks,Dustin

Kraig,
Thanks for the response the blade subframe. I'm thinking on welding in a cross brace at about 7.5" wide. I wanted to beef this one up, because I'm getting a wear edge made out of 1/4" steel, and plan on manufacturing some teeth on it to score up the ground. Think of it as a food plot special! (In case it does not work, I'm getting a second wear edge made that will not have the teeth) The local cub dealer wants almost 40 bucks for a wear edge, ouch!!!

Rob:
I'm thinking that the reason the arms on the subframe have bent is because the "Frankenstud" uprights have bent (see pic). The extensions behind the uprights really shouldn't be taken other than a straight upward force unless the uprights have bent, jamming the arms into the foot rest rod. (Just a thought on where you might want reinforcing..)

There was not a "Cast Iron End" 48" deck, only 38" and 42", and they were made from 1963 to 68 and available on the 70/100 thru the 122/123. They could also be retro-fitted to the earlier Original. There was a 48" deck available for those models during that time, but it is a different deck than the cast iron end ones.

Paul, I'm thinking that Dustin is thinking the cast nose on the 48" deck makes it a "cast iron deck".

Dustin, there were 3 versions of the 48" stamped end deck which BTW does have a cast nose piece. Just a FYI, the early 38" decks and 42" decks did have both a cast nose AND cast ends as Paul mentioned. Here we refer to these as "Cast End" decks. Anyway lets ID the deck you have. Does it have round runners or are they "half round"? Are the rear mounting points solid pins or are they spring loaded pins? Is the rear portion of the deck body bent in a 90° bend or a 45° bend? Or perhaps an easier way, which of the following does your deck resemble.

quote " A cub engine is basic... suck, boom, bang. "

Sounds like what Ralph Cramden would say if he were a Cub Cadet mechanic....

Kraig:
I have the 3rd screen shot, 71-73. Im trying to figure out the correct bearing spindles. the deck i have has one from a stamped 44" deck which is a little larger. could you tell me the pulley diameters and the correct deck belt length?

Does anyone have a creeper on the tractor they plow with? I have one but im wondering if i want to put such a rare and expensive part on a tractor thats doing some real work. How tough are these creepers? Will I need a different gearbox cover? I only plow my small garden in the spring and fall. I also plan on buying a tiller which a creeper would be ideal for. Should I not worry about it? Thanks,Dustin

Kendell,

I hear what your saying, however the subframe was still attached to the blade, and I used a Hydraulic jack to remove it. Prior to removal the spacing between the bars where it contacted the footrest support bar was 4" Maybe I will weld a bar in both places for additional support.
