Tim D.
The manual says Champion J8C, but I'd go with an Autolite 216 and be better for it if I were you.

Charlie - My yeller cubs said they want to gang up on that dirty filthy crappy 782 ... bring it on down

I bet she said you needed another project !

I am a new owner of two 1250 Quietlines. I am finishing up installing a fresh K301 on one of the tractors. The aluminum air duct/right side muffler mount is broke. It seems to be a weak point in my opinion, and on my other 1250 the entire duct work is removed and homemade brackets support the muffler.
My questions - How does removal of the air ducting affect cooling or anything else? Would you suggest replacing the $80 aluminum part or ditch it and use custom mounting?

Joel-
Go about halfway down on this page and see what David Kirk says about that...

(By the way, David is a forum sponsor, so his info is in one of the links at the top of this page.)

In my opinion, I wouldn't remove that cooling ductwork as I've seen it melt the IH emblem on the front of those quietline grills it gets so hot.

STEVE B., Tom H. - The Gremlin and it's big sister the Hornet didn't look so terribly bad.....but WHAT was AMC thinking when they designed the PACER?

Buddy I used to work with had a '72 I think it was AMX. Actually a decent car.

Denny, I agree, the AMC Hornet was not bad looking. My parents bought a used 1972 Hornet Sportabout for my sisters and me to drive. Unfortunately it was not as good looking as the regular Hornet. It was a good dependable car though, oh and the one we had was purple.

Charlie, any idea how far the operator launched himself? From the looks of that blade subframe it might have been a record!

I'm sure that I'm not the first to use this system to access the bottom of my CC but it seemed like a novel idea.
My oldest son was wondering if anyone had ever tried to add a pressure oil system to the Kolher engine? I told him I didn't see any way it could be done, but then the old man dosen't know anything.

James N.-

I think that would be more trouble than it's worth, seeing as there's no oil passages in the block, crank or cam, and no provision for an oil pump. Just get a magnetic drain plug or a magnet to put on your drain plug.

Thanks, Kraig, I was wondering how he turned the garage sideways...
Before Charlie shuts down the AMC thread - I'll add, we had a couple of early-mid 80 Eagle station wagons built on that same body style - good cars, not quite as ugly as the coupes..
To keep it OT, I'm deciding whether to get the 149 working before I split the Hydro on the 129 to replace the cork gasket. Anyone know, does the 1 piece return line supecede the 3 piece w/elbow that my 129 has on it??

Kendell-

Which one-piece one, the one that goes up around the top of the hydro, or the one that goes more directly? I don't think it matters, they all go the same place.

Kendell, I agree with Matt, either will work. I've heard that the one piece loop was supposed to help with cooling, turns out it didn't need it so they later simplified the setup and went with the elbow version.

Kendell, any of these will work:

Loop style.

One piece elbow.

Multi piece elbow

JAMES - There was a scale replica 1206 FARMALL at the Red Power Roundup in Penfield, IL in 2003 that was just like a REAL 1206....TURBOCHARGED and that means it needed lube oil for the turbo bearing. The builder put a small low volume low pressure gear pump on the front (PTO) end of the engine and drove it with a toothed timing belt. I've also kicked the idea around about pressure lubing a K-series Kohler but then they'd probably last forever and I wouldn't have the enjoyment of rebuilding them.

James-
Why is the front axle mount torched off that 147's frame.

You're not into Cub-Torture I hope!?!?!?

Thanks Matt, thats as I saw it. He's worried about mowing on the hill. Thanks for adjusting the photo.
Aaytay, That's just an area where I had to do some welding. This rig had been dropped prior to my ownership, I had to weld a 0.125 plate under the axel pivot pin bushing where it had broken out and have two new bushings and a longer pivot pin fabed at a local mach. shop. It's all freshly painted and going back together now. Thanks for your concern.
Jim.

"I've heard that the one piece loop was supposed to help with cooling, turns out it didn't need it so they later simplified the setup and went with the elbow version"...
Ummmm - per the Parts lookup, the three piece came first ("for tractors w/serial no. 468990 and below" - my 129 is 468740...). The reason I asked was 'cause they still show both and that usually means a difference in what they're being applied to.. If the cork gasket doesn't fix 'ol drooly, I'm suspecting the line, as it's been wrenched several times. (by yours truely
