I am looking for some advice. Have a 122. Thinking of installing a creeper drive. Any suggestions on what to look for when evaluating a unit to purchase?
Thanks

JD comparison question: Was there ever a Cub built that was/is comparable to a JD 430 in power and capability? I wasn't quite sure how the Cub diesels compared.

Jim T.-

I am by no means a green thing expert, but I think the 430's are a bit larger than even a super. However, I think a 1772 could probably hold its own against one.

I still remember being at PD12 and catching 318s and 420s with my little 128.... They were always spinning tires and plowing like 2" deep....Kind of annoying... It was more fun being behind 782s and things that I didn't have to slow down for.

LONNIE B. - You're like me.....Need a BIGGER CART for all the tree branches that blow down from all My trees... That 2000# cap. tandem axle dump trailer in Northern's catalog for about $2000 looks tempting until I talk to the CFO....The big orange one with drop-down metal sides. I'd like to build something similar but I haven't quite got the hoist figured out yet. I need to find a "Small 3-stage hyd. cylinder" like would be used on a full size dump truck body. I understand the rear leveling cylinders on old hillside combines use them but they're pretty hard to find in the midwest. I saw a 7700 JD Hillside a couple weeks ago sitting along the road ready for auction down by the Quad-Cities and they didn't even level the rear steering axle.

JIM T. - To play with something like the 420/430 JD I'd look for something on the order of a IH 234/244/254 compact tractor or the newer versions sold after the IH/Tennaco merger. Back when they were new especially the 430's were the answer to a question NOBODY asked. My Buddy who works for JD Davenport Works saw the bill for a 430 the plant bought for the maintenance dept. Interworks price for just the tractor, no implements and no dealer mark-up was just over $11,000 back in the mid-80's. That would have bought about three Cub Cadet SGT's which would have been 1872/1772/2072's back then.
