Jason,

Nice, real nice! I love the way those ags look on it.
Can't wait to see how they look on my 100.
You know what the wife will do when she sees those black marks on the driveway....

I have an unrestored 1963 Original that runs great and I use it weekly. It is a nice straight tractor with fenders and lights. I'm considering giving it a coat of paint since it has never been redone. Unfortunately I don't have access to a paint booth or the basic knowledge of spraying paint. I will have to rattle can primer and paint after using a wire wheel or sand paper. Is there a specific primer that would be best to use which will help with the overall finish? I realize it won't have the "brand new" look, but I also want the paint to be as durable as possible.

You could use an implement type enamel for durability. I keep same brand primer and paint when I do rattle can jobs. My experience has been that using different brands of primer and paint, for example krylon brand primer and Rust-Oleum final color paint, the finish looks junky. Paint brands are for example only. Spider webbing in paint, peeling from not adhering to primer, etc are some issues I've had. Surface prep goes a long way too. Making sure oils and such are removed before painting is key, along with sanding.

Dave, need the pto block off plate.....

+1 on Krylon and Rustoleum not being mixed......always ends badly.

Michael S,

I didn't know anything much about painting, or cub cadet tractors. I just started reading and posting on this site and went from there.
These guys will help guide you in the right direction.

You can build your own paint booth fairly inexpensively, and you can buy a nice paint gun for around $35-$40.

I did my first tractor with a wire brush on a 4" angle grinder, but it will take time and patience.
If you "go the extra mile" you will be extra glad you did!

Here is my first tractor:
