Richard, are you wanting to add a safety kill switch on the seat or just something to shut the engine off in place of the key switch?

A kill switch to shut the engine off. I dont know how to install it?
 
Its the safety switch, so if the tractor disconnects from the sled it kills the tractor. I need to know how it wires into the tractor.

I would place a N.C. (nomally closed) switch in line with the + wire going to the coil...
 
I must have done something wrong again. I just posted in the off topics and my post ended up at the bottom. Is this where they should end up? What in the heck did I do for it to end up there?

RICHARD - Some place that sells lots of GT pulling parts mike Midwest SuperCub should also handle kill switches. I just checked their catalog and they didn't show a listing for one. I'd send them an e-mail or call them. If they don't have them they will know who does.

The kill switch disconnects the primary side of the ignition coil, it has to have a special release mechanism. There should be instructions with the switch.
 
I have a kill switch i bought off of ebay, but it did not come with the instructions.
 
Richard, We don't know what you have. If it is a normally closed switch it has to go in the line to the coil.

I'll be getting Clarence (102) out from winter hibernation this weekend and just remembered that he had a couple issues last fall when I put him away. When I first brought him home there was the customary lilttle puffs of blue smoke. By using Marvel Mystery Oil in both the engine and oil those little blue smokies became very minor and he was running pretty darn well. Then the last time that I mowed with him it was a warm day and all of a sudden a grayish white oily smoke started coming out of the exhaust. I quickly drove to the garage and shut the engine off. It seemed hotter than usual. I let the engine cool down and when I checked the oil it was way low (just checked it before mowing). A gentleman last fall said that it sounded like Clarence had a valve sticking or possibly a bad valve. I told him that Clarence did have carbon buildup when I got him only I didn't think it was that bad. When I put Clarence away for the winter I noticed that with no load he ran somewhat smooth only with any load he soon lost power big time. Before I pull the head does anyone have any other thoughts as to check for?
 
Having a problem with my model 70. I have a major loss in power when I engage the pto for the mower deck. The Kohler has new points set .020, new filter bowl, new plug, new head gasket tq'd bolts to spec, rebuilt carb with idle and main jet adjusted according to service manual. I adjusted the governer according to the manual as well. The tractor idles great has plenty of power in all three gears but drops with the deck engaged. I cut grass with it all last year and can't figure out what I did wrong to it.

Welcome to the IH Cub Cadet Forum....
Mufflers glowing red are usually a sign of a mixture problem with the carb - unburned gas is burning in the muffler. You've already hit most of the other possible problems. It is also possible to have a problem with retarded timing, but IIRC your late model Cub has electronic ignition...
BTW, this part of the forum is actually for posting of topics related to the Cubs built by International Harvester before it's divestiture of the Cub Cadet line (sold to MTD)in 1981. The appropriate part of the forum, where you will get more answers, is the "CCC and MTD Machines & Equipment" section found under the listed topics. Not unusual for this to be missed by newer members... again welcome to the forum!!!

You say its got power in all three gears, but is that with an actual load on it? It sounds like a governor or high speed jet adjustment issue - too lean under load when the governor opens the throttle plate as engine speed drops. I 'd test under a real load, like hooking a chain to a tree and to the tab hitch, putting it in third , set the engine at running speed and SLOWLY letting out the clutch.. If it bears down under the load, but doesn't stall, your engine is probably not the problem - start checking mule drive and deck bearing...
 
Don, nice looking tires, I have the same on my 72 right now. Well actually they are 6 - 12s, you probably have 8". But for a few years I had them on my 70 and at Iowa plow day they were terrific!! Sure turmed a lot of heads!! Locally at a plow day with very light sandy soil I found out if you spin the tire a little you dug right down and got hung up. They have a lot of tread. I am taking my 72 to Iowa next week.
A little rough riding on the hard ground or pavement, but they would go down the highway and out last me. I sure like them and hope you do too.
 
Thanks for the advice I will try your suggestions this weekend. I was thinking I might have a clutch problem or deck issue, but I'm a little stumped.
 
Thanks Ron. They are the same 6x12 tires I bought for a cub back in '95 and loved them. Lots of tread for the sand out here.
I sure was happy to see a clean rim. I've seen way too many super-rusted versions over the years.

My 1962 original has a 8 horse kohler on it and
being that it is designed for a 7 horse it has
caused a few problems. It is restored so I would have to restore a 7 horse is it a good idea to replace it or should I leave the 8 horse in it.



I got in to my 122 rear end today snap ring is on I measured and my axels they both stik out the same width so something must be up with my tires my bushins for the axel is completely wore out.

Wow! Those are some tall treads you got there. I'd like to have a set for plowing on my 1450.
Tried plowing a never before tilled garden spot the other day with the atv tires and just spun out. I'll bet you would'nt have problems with those tires. Neat looking cub, too.
