1862 was towed....

so my 1862 was towed by a car about a 1/4 mile exceeding 10-15 mph..I am aware of the hydro-towing rules..obviously the person towing wasn't... now the rear end is locked up.. free wheels when in the air on a jack but dosn't move on the ground., the deck and steering are working....so where do I start? with the hydro pump? or pull the rear end..extremely frustrated..please help

You need a new (or used) pump. Yours is toast. That tractor doesn't go 10 on its own. Let alone without Hytran flowing to live the swash plates.

I'd make that person who towed it pay for it. Who in the hell was steering it when it went that fast? It takes 2 people to tow. Unless the front is on a trailer/dolly.

thanks for the response..neighbor borrowed..broke down then towed it back w/his son steering.... what other models will have the same pump ?

Anthony--unfortunate situation for sure. What is the serial number of your tractor? It will be found on the left side of the frame on the tag located above the footrest. Some parts were different from the early 1862 to the later ones .

"Repair or replace?"--only you can ultimately make that decision. I would certainly repair it because it is a durable machine. However, you have to look at the rest of the machine and assess its condition. The 1862 is a garden tractor in every sense of the word. It is capable of doing full ground engaging work while still holding up. Most new box store tractors can only stand up to law mowing duties and that for only a handful of years and then they begin to fall apart! As far as the hydro unit is concerned, if you have some mechanical skills, they are relatively easy to change. Put an ad in the wanted section of the forum for a used one or check with our sponsors above. I don't think you'll have too much trouble finding one. New the purchase price would just be too much to justify the repair.

repair or replace meaning the hydro/swash plate issue...I bought a box store tractor 10 yrs ago for 2500 after the 3 rd year and countless repairs I put it to the curb,literally

Yes, you could rebuild the pump with a kit available from the sponsors. But it will be ALOT less headache just getting another used pump. Remove the old one, bolt in the new one. Back to mowing... And alot less headache. Unless you want a "brand new" pump without actually buying a new one. Used will be fine. You just have to make sure you get it from a similar tractor. Hydro lift and such...
