1450 cub

Found a decent looking 1450 with 38 " deck. runs but deck dont come on so probably the pto clutch. Girlfriend want something to mow her small yard, Is of these old 70's mowers worth the trouble or any better recommendations ?

1st off, check the fuse first.

It's on the tower by your left knee, there are two there, one is for the headlamps. Next check the switch, try wiggling it while turning it off and on.

Sometimes it's just a dirty or corroded contact inside the switch as they are right out there in the open and do not like moisture!

Make sure you are getting juice through the fuse and to the PTO proper before you start taking it apart.

Better recommendation than a 50 year old garden tractor for someone that isn't into the hobby like most of us? Yeah... anything modern. Most disposable riding mowers produced now will last at least 10 years with proper maintenance, and parts are easily obtainable. Heck home Depot and almost all farm stores have filters, blades, and batteries on the shelf. I guess it depends how much time you want to spend with said girlfriend, versus tinkering with her tractor!!! If it were me? Id buy my wife a newer Cub off marketplace, as most people find the foot speed control easier to operate than the dash mounted style the old Cubs have. And a modern engine would typically be marginally quieter, and less vibratory. And a newer unit will have a better turn radius, if that's a concern for her patch of grass.
