Richard G. The nice thing about a "qa" snowthrower is that the mounting brackets are abjustable for narrow or wide frame use. I have had my qa42 on my 126 and 147,they both handle it with ease. You would like the 42(which designates the width of the path it makes) better than the 36 because the...

Bruce,Dennis,Todd My 126 which has a factory replacement engine that my dad installed years ago also has a side dipstick on the cam gear cover, but it is not the same as my 147. It is larger in diameter and has a regular dipstick and there is no dipstick tube on the other side. That engine...

Todd H. The top "dipstick" is for puting oil in the crankcase and the "dipstick" on the side is for checking the level. My 147 is made the same way and has it's original engine,as far as I know. The top dipstick is not intended to reach the crankcase.

Kevin W. I just did my 147. The line you need is the one that is an elbow, two pipes and several fittings. It is available as a kit. I really think is fits nice, does cost a few bucks however.

Doug V Does your 127 still have the original Rubber and fabric covered wiring (each wire in the harness is insulated with rubber and a color coded fabric ) instead of plastic coated wires? My 126 experienced a total wiring failure where the harness runs inside the frame rail beside the engine...

Matt W. I'm from Lincoln Ne. There are a lot of "Big Red" collectors that also collect Cub Cadets, but I haven't seen any Nebraska collectors on here. One place to see Cub Cadets are local antique farm machinery shows, especially when IH is the feature line. I am a member of Camp Creek...

Brian B. When I got my dad's 126 a few years ago the charging system didn't work. Found the wiring harness inside the frame rail had totally failed,it came out in two pieces. It also ruined the regulator. I changed the harness with the engine in place, later I did my 147, on it you have to take...

Brian B 1. Fully charge the battery with a battery charger. 2. Start and warm up the tractor. 3. Use a handheld meter to check the charging system voltage at half throttle or more (cover must be on the regulator when taking readings and the lights off). 4. Voltage at the battery must be atleast...

Ken F. The operators manual for a #1 (rear mount) tiller mentions how to install the assist assembly, but doesn't tell how to set it. "Adjust to suit" is probably the recomendation. There is always some tension on the spring, not much with a mower deck which lifts easily a lot more with the frt...

Scott S Measure the tractor on a flat level floor. My 126 which has the original rear tires does not sit level unless I put 2-3# more air in the rt rear tire, nothing is bent just a variation in the two rear tires. The variation is about as much as you describe. Bruce C. When I got my 147 it...

Jason The unit you describe as "open with a fan" is most likely an automotive generator only unit. While it will "motor" it won't develop enough torque to crank an engine and is designed to use a three unit regulator with a current limiter. If you use it with a two unit regulator like on a Cub...

I'm reassembling the hydro stat from my 147 and have run into some problems. 1. the cover gasket where the aluminum and case iron part come together seems to be the right shape, but it is too small #394 865 R1 on the package, old stock and shrunk or wrong one? If it has shrunk, soak it in hot...

Don T Pretty sure you will need a coil with an internal resistor. Meter the system, you should be getting a full 12 volts to the coil,if not, look for a bad connection somewhere or maybe a bad switch. Wayne

Tom R You should ck the grease in the gear box, mine had turned to crud and the gasket probably won't survive either, mine didn't. My QA manual says for a grease filled box : There must be enough lubricant in the gear box so that the teeth on the bottom of the large gear are completely in grease...

    Mini Hay Racks/running gears

Tom Yes your running gear is missing something.Does anyone have photos of a full sized running gear? It will be easier to show than to explain what you are missing.

Charles K According to Kenneth Updike in his book Farmall Cub & Cub Cadet, his production figures indicate the other models appear to have been much more popular in that series. I have a 126 and a 147,I wouldn't part with either of them.

Don T I overhauled my 126 and 147,one is .020 over and the other is .030. Both are standard oversizes for those engines. Both run great, and I doubt if most people will ever use their Cub Cadets enough that they will ever need another rebuild. Make sure you "mike" the crankshaft to see of it...

Kevin Max voltage shouldn't go above 14.5,with a fully charged battery and the system at operation temperature. The reading must be taken with the cover on the regulator. Check it a couple of times the first day or two to make sure it is stable. The old trade school rule-of-thumb was 13.8 to...

Tim Keefe The studs can be replaced. Find a junk Delco Gen and rob one out of it or go to a local "automotive electrical" or some such shop, that specializes in starter and generator repair and if you have dismanteled the generator, they will probably not charge you much to fix it. I didn't...

Wes V Does it still have the original rubber and fabric coated wiring? My 126 did and the harness was totaled out where it runs inside the frame rail beside the engine. It would still crank, but none of the wiring to the regulator up front was functional. I put a new harness on my 147 when I...
