Brennan, it's only attached at one end so that it can flex out of the way when it inevitably hits a tree or some other immovable object. It's made out of spring steel but they usually end up breaking anyway.

Aartay,

Do you think it could use more space to float? Or doesn't it matter? Anyone know if the newer style for the 682 has the same problem when plowing?

Thanks again,

Rob

Brennan, I believe that photo that Kevin posted only makes it look long. Here's another view.

Finally have the frame painted. Lots of little parts to blast and still paint.

Brennan, sweet deal. It's nice when ya can swap services with friends like that. That deck should last forever.

Got to lookin at the 73 and it looks to me like I could mount a timed deck to it. Are those extra holes in the frame for that or am I wrong ? If I can I may do that as a temporary mower.

Rob-
Yes, it needs more float if you're pulling a moldboard plow..

But I bet it's GREAT for using a box blade!

Kraig; I missed the ice storm by a fraction. I have a niece at fort knox Ky. that has no power and they are telling her 2 more weeks. All her trees are destroyed, Gutters torn off house. I havent heard from Ken or Paul.

Just looking at the diagram that Jim Cartwright posted of the rear-end/hydro breakdown. I was trying to order the suction line for my 147 that looped up around and got different parts. I hadn't called my dealer yet, but was going to. Is the shorter line, that doesn't loop up around an update? Or is that specific to a different model?

ART - I've only had My 982 at one PD, Seems like Wyatt loaned Me a 12" Brinley to put on My sleeve hitch adapter. That PD was the famous "Mud Bowl" PD, traction was "limited" to put it nicely, but Son & I made quite a few rounds with the 982...Plow worked best with a bit of "Ballast" on it...I had to stand on the plow frame to keep it in the ground consistently. If You tried to use the down force in the hitch it transferred weight off the rear tires and would cause a spin-out, which dug holes, and would high center the tractor if You didn't catch it quickly enough. I could have played with the adjustments on the plow or the hitch and maybe got it set a little better but I didn't want to make a whole bunch of changes to a borrowed plow.

I still like My 72 for plowing the best. Seems like I can find an adjustment for about any condition with just a couple stops on the first pass.

Kevin Warren (Kwarren) the hydro line was updated to the shorter line. IH thought it would add more cooling to the hydro. I have a few tractors here and some have the line going up around the charge pump. so what you have now is just a pipe with elbow? later Don T ( did i say that its snowing, started at 7.30 am and will snow till tomorrow am. )

Kevin W. I just did my 147. The line you need is the one that is an elbow, two pipes and several fittings. It is available as a kit. I really think is fits nice, does cost a few bucks however.

Well the 149 is gassed up and ready to plow some snow. I want at least a foot just so i get some seat time lol. Hope you all have a great day. later Don T

We only got a dusting last night, maybe a half inch.

I did get some good handle time with my shovel however...

Art A. Quote: "I just wouldn't give one to an untrained operator at a PD simply because they would struggle to make it go down the furrow in a repectable manner."

Geez... now I am going to feel guilty bringing the "D" with the Cat O to Travis' Plow Day. This is due to not being sure if am I "untrained" or not "respectable"?

..... I almost feel traumatized.

I am home all week due to a weeklong shutdown on my team at where I work. Too cold to do anything outside.

Marlin,

Your safe. The GT 3 point has float built into the lift bar. So your ok. Plus even if you weren't "Experienced" at the beginning of the day you would be at the end of it. We'll just have to get Art to play teacher for a day.

Yikes! I just got off the phone with the local Case dealer and they want $37 for 2 1/2gal of Hytran or $62 for a 5gal pail. Is that the going price? seems rather high to me.

Marlin-
Sorry, I didn't mean to make it sound like PDs are only for a highly trained driver. Actually, that's far from the truth, as newbies are probably the most welcome operators of the bunch.

It's just that driving a Super is a very different operating style than the "set it and forget it" approach you can usually take with all of the other (narrow frame, wide frame, and GT Cat-0) set ups.

Maybe I should have said it this way...

"If my 10 year old daughter wanted to try plowing, and I had two different tractors on the trailer, I'd give her whatever was NOT a Super."

Michael - I've heard over at the RPM site You can save a buck or so a gal. buying from the Case dealer's bulk supply. Take Your clean empty jugs for refill. But it's still between $10 and $11/gallon.
With crude oil prices down now from what it was 6-8 months ago it may come down a bit in price in the next couple months.
