I'm home on vacation this week and I'm trying to fix up the 782D. Put a new brake on the right side as the PO had tore it off with loose tire chains. Pressure washed it and put a rattle can paint job on the fender pan. Better than rust. Tomorrow is take the wheels off and sand and paint. Also put on the powdered coated foot rests from Extreme Motorworks. I'll send pictures when done.

Awesome Melody! I can't wait to see the progress photos! Nothing quite like working on upgrades for your smoker--except driving and working it of course

I am getting a antifreeze smell when I shut down the 782D. Can't find any leaks and its not blowing white smoke. Checked the oil and it doesn't look milky. The radiator is full. I guess the next step is putting a pressure test on the the system. Any thoughts?

Is it possible that normal expansion is forcing a little out of the radiator through the cap? I don't know if a 782D has an expansion tank or not, but it's normal to have the antifreeze expand as the engine gets hot. Just a thought.....

Melody where's those Pics you promised ? Check all hose clamps/connections ....Also manual recommends IH cooling system conditioner for Hot weather operation & Run engine 1 minute @ idle before shut down.

Gerry, No there is not a expansion tank. Paul, I'm not good with pic's. I'll have to get some off to Kraig, The guy I bought it from said he did something to the radiator, so I thought it was good. I'll keep searching. I haven't been running it much, just to move in and out of garage. I've been mowing with the 127.

Melody, feel free to send me photos to post any time.

Melody, it may be water pump leaking slightly on shutdown. Take a peek with a flashlight under the pump....

Thanks Jim, will do. Kraig, I sent you a couple of pic's. You can post them when you get a chance. Thank you very much.

Jim, I believe you may be right. I see a little bit of dampness by the water pump seal. Another project to get done when I have time. I'm not losing much antifreeze so I will keep an eye on it for now. Thank you for everyone's input.

Now that I am using it every weekend to mow, I am not getting the antifreeze smell. Maybe it had {what I call} a cold water leak. Now that its warm, no problem. Thanks for all your help.

How do you like your diesel for mowing grass ? I bet it would be the cheapest on fuel to run. I really need to get fenders on my 1512 D . So much to do and so little time in a day lol.

Don I like it real well. It just sips fuel. Idont have the 44c on it because It needs to be rebuilt. I'm like you not enough time. I hooked up 42 inch triangle deck . Works fine.

Melody--What a great looking machine! You'll have all your neighbors jealous!!!! I've been cutting with my CubKub (the 1772) for nearly three years now and I love it! I cut just over 1 1/2 acres of grass at my house. When I had my throw away 1050LT (brand new) I was using about 1.75 gallons of gas per cutting. My diesel uses about .75 of a gallon cutting the same space! That is a cost savings for sure. Call me a junkie--but another perk is the smell of a good running diesel as its working. Reminds me of the hours of seat time on my grandpas diesel farm tractors back in the day. Thanks for the pictures Melody (Kraig) and keep us updated as you keep working that smoker!!!

Joshua, Thank you for the kudos. Haven't heard much from you but I guess this is your busy time of year.

Melody-- "you hit the nail on the head" to borrow a term from my trade! I would love to be on here more often through the summers but they are always super busy. I do check in regularly but don't always have time to post. However, I'll be starting a refurbish thread on my dads 149 that we are rebuilding soon...
