Took the driveshaft out of my 782D to replace rag joints...man, what a PITA! Took me 2.5 hours!!! Anyway, I found a couple more broken parts. My driveshaft has a wallowed out spirol pin hole, and the bronze bushing at the front of the driveshaft came out in pieces. Odd thing is, the CC parts lookup website doesn't show one of those bushings there in the diagram. Can I use one of ref. no. 7 to replace the front broken one? Thanks!

Once you know how to do it you can get the drive shaft it about 30 minutes, BUT your right, I swear at the engineers of the world every time I work on it. :p

Sorry I can't help you with your question though...

Matt G, Matt K: I think you will find that the front one is an integral part of # 13 and not a separate piece like the rear one....

Actually that part is separate, I figured that out after I got it out. It's fixed now, but man, that took forever. I hope it's awhile before I have to do that again.

Matt G.
I wish you had taken a pic of that, cause I'vwe never seen or heard of one being seperate pieces.
I did see one once that had the shoulder ground off though.

Charlie-

Sorry about that... It's weird though, it didn't look like it was supposed to be one piece like the rear one, it just had a little flange inside that the bushing rode nicely on, and was trapped between the flex coupling adapter and the pulley on the crank. It went back together right and seems to be fine. I couldn't see that it has worn out and fell off anywhere, either. It really looked like it belonged. If I ever have to take it out again in the near future, I'll be sure to take a picture. I didn't think to replace the alternator/water pump belt while I was in there, so I may need to take it off one more time...

Anyway, here's a picture of what it looks like now.

Matt G: Yeah, I'm with Charlie...I sure wish you had photographed that. Mine isn't broke so I'm not about to disassemble it to find out

...The parts manual isn't showing one like you describe so I just don't know now...

Matt G. Did your "D" have two or four rubber rag joints? There was no way that four would fit on my "D" driveshaft line.

Marlin H.-

It had 4 on it before I replaced the driveshaft. The original one was about to break at the front spirol pin hole, so I made a new one with dimensions from the old one. However, I couldn't get 4 on it no matter what I tried, so I wound up with 2 on the back and 1 at the front.

Hi Guys, hope someone can help me. I think awhile back there was something about battery cables service bulletin and about a battery cover. I wasn't wise enough to print them for my 782D, hope someone can help or tell me where to look. With gas so high the diesel is so much cheaper to run and more fun! thanks for any help

Rick W:
This should answer your inquiry. Note it says add not replace!! If you need/want a hi res email me.

Frank M. What a BIG time bummer with your 782D and the seller. It is a shame that some people are like that. I am not bragging with what I am going to post however just showing how to some people their word is their name and they treat it like gold.

I don't know how many people know the actual story of how I acquired my 782D. I was blessed to be the first responder to an add on a Yahoo garden tractor site. The ad basically stated: FREE for parts. 1985 Cub Cadet 782D. I also privately e:mailed the gentleman and then thought my chances of ever getting such a tractor were slim to none. About 45 minutes later I checked my e:mail and much to my surprise the gentleman had responded with location name and phone number. I was excited and shocked and somewhat apprehensive. The tractor was in Virgina and I live in Iowa. Daryn and I had a couple of nice chats and I did some e:mailing and sweating. Daryn later informed me that he had SEVERAL e:mails offering anywhere from a couple of hundred dollars to well over a thousand dollars. He said that each person was informed the same thing. Daryn has never in his life welched on a deal of any kind and even though he could have told me that something had happened and the Cub Cadet was no longer available then sold it for a profit, he didn't. Instead this truly great man without ever meeting me kept his word. There are others that helped to deliver my "D" to me with the same caliper of integrity. To each one I owe so much gratitude and am blessed to know such good people. As Angel and I continue to keep such people in our prayers we shall also now pray for you to have good results in getting your Cub Cadet. We shall also pray for the "other guy" to see the wrong that he has done and correct it.

BTW... Charlie. How about an update on your 782D please and thank you.

A couple of other things. Fuel filters are a lot cheaper at the Kubota dealer then the Cub dealer sad to say. Less than $4.00 with tax @ Kubota for one and $8.43 + tax @ local Cub dealer for the identical item. The one at the Cub dealer actually was in the same type of box as the Kubota filter. Part number is the same as Kubota. ALSO... Needed a spare Cub key for the older Cubs. Same key as the older 06, 56, 66, and I think 86 series tractor fits the older Cub Cadets. Over $3.40 + tax @ IH/Cub Cadet dealer for one key. Identical key is used on the older Bobcat skidloaders. $3.89 + tax... for two. (They come as a set of two.)

Live and learn... and share information.

Off to bed. Have a good'un.

Well I finally found something to fix on my 782D. Dang little return hose that cost all of $2.17, LOL
Seems a little slit showed up for some reason.

Marlin:
Great story and fantastic ending. I do hope you enjoy your acquisition. One of my problems is that I treat others as I want to be treated. My word is a contract! In my business, I don't use contracts. If my word is not good enough, than I will not work for you. I apply that same feeling to those that I do business with, incuding the less than honorable seller in Wisconsin. I can tell you that he has some lesson on their way. I fied suit last week to force delivery. Since his last communication was a threat, I have not informed him of my actions. I was trying to convince him to see the light by giving him fair warning of the actions I would take. I fully believe he is of the mind that I will not chase him for the 782D. "WRONG Decision" The biggest problem will be when he has to tell me he sold it to someone else for more money! That is when I will re-call the sheriff's office and ask that they bring in the complaint that I filed previously and now pursue a fraud claim. May even be wire fraud since it went across state lines...he could be in some serious trouble. He can't say that I did not warn him and give him every opportunity to do the honorable thing.
Again: Thanks for your thoughts and prayers!
FSM

Frank, Would a Fraud claim hold up if you never paid him any money? Or did You?

Seems that it would be Breach of Contract anyway but I think you may have to prove damages.....

I'm not a lawyer, I don't even play one on the internet. Just curious.

Just got cleaned up from working on the 782D fuel contamination problem. I did as Myron B. suggested and checked the fuel line since a filter didn't seem to help. I ended up taking out the shutoff valve and found the screen on it was completely brown with very small particles of rust. The inside of the tank had several big pieces of rust and some rubber particles. I wonder if the biodiesel caused the rust that formed on the fuel gauge when the D was "in transist" and couldn't be started last winter due to the biodiesel. Since the tank was around half full maybe just maybe that was the problem. I mowed with it a little tonight. What a BIG difference in starting and performance. Angel took two pics of the screen; a before and after only she is in bed and I'm not waking her.

Marlin H: Now the fun begins!! I mowed about two hours with mine today...more tomorrow.. but Fair Warning!!: Angel will take that 782D away from ya...:)-}>...
