I'm a retired engineer that spent most of his life working in the Outdoor Power Equipment industry. I was surfing the web and ran across this Cub Cadet Forum. It brought back memories. I was working for IH at the time the Cub Cadet was designed and was assigned the job of designing all of the attachments that were actually manufactered by IH. It was quite a change from designing farm equipment. I would have to admit that the original timed blade mower was not one of my better endeavors. The experience led me on to jobs at Wheelhorse and ultimately to the position of VP of Engineering at Gravely Tractors. I look back on the original Cub Cadet as producing a major turning point in my career.

Patrick, welcome!

John Clark, wow! a living example of American engineering brain power. You might think it was not your best work, but many would argue that it was/is a fine piece of equipment. I've not had the chance to run a timed deck, but want to have one someday. With so many still around and working today, it just shows how well designed and built they were. 45+ years later is pretty amazing if you ask me.

Thanks for joining the forum and hope to read more about your days at IH and about the early Cub Cadets and attachments you helped design.

Patrick:
Welcome aboard!

John D. :
Good to have you here. I'm not sure if you were involved with the "dozer" blade, but if you were, it more than makes up for any deficiencies that the timed deck might have had. The phrase "ramming speed" is used in many of the same sentences mentioning the blade. My first acquaintance with a Cub was the winter of '63, plowing my high school buddy's driveway with his dad's Original... Stick around and share a few reminisces!!

John D: Absolutely, welcome to the forum!

Just for your information, As I do regularly, I mowed my 90 year old mother's grass this past week with an Original Model Cub Cadet with one of those Timed Blade 38" decks. 47 years old and still makes one of the prettiest cuts of all...You really didn't do too bad....Be proud of it...I am...

I am currently working on refurbishing an Original Cub Cadet which should be done soon, see the main forum for my progress photos. I have the 38" timed deck too, hopefully I'll get that refurbished next year. It's in very good condition really just needs a new coat of paint. I can't wait to give it a try.
