My wife picked up the head gasket for my 73 today and this is what I got. Did Kohler change material for some reason ? I haven't seen one like this. I hope it holds up.

Brendan, Keep an eye on that. I am a parts buyer for the company I work for and we have received several shipments of Yanmar head gaskets where the black coating is coming off the gasket core. We had to reject and return

Thanks John, these remind me of Chevy exhaust manifold gaskets. They feel soft, you can scratch the surface real easy. It cost more than the other type gasket also. I would have asked for the other type gasket had I been there but my wife didn't know any better so I'll run it and see what happens. Maybe they figure this type will seal better on irregular surfaces being that it's softer. I'm putting it back together this a.m. so we'll see. I'll turn it into a product review

Does anybody know how to seperate the blade from the frame on a wide frame front blade? I am going to pick one up long distance and will need to do this to fit it in the mini van. Want to bring the right tools with me. Thanks.

Brendan-

The 7/8 h.p. ones are like that. They aren't the "fire ring" style like the ones for the larger engines. Torque it according to the manual and you shouldn't have a problem.

Thanks Matt, was wondering cause all the 7's I've had apart including this one had the fire ring gaskets. I won't worry bout it then.

Bruce Nolte, I've read/heard that smoothing the intake passage could reduce power since it decreases turbulence.

David B,

You might want to check the For Sale section in the Classified Ad section here on the forum to get a narrow frame sleeve hitch for your 122.

Allen S,
No I wasn't referring to the 122 steering cap. Someone asked about a 982 a few days before that.

Kraig,
That is the one I was talking about. That is the cap my early 982 has.

Richard C,
It is really easy to switch to the other side if you have the later style clamp-on arm. If you have the arm with the roll pin, you may have to drill a new hole. On my 1450 I added dual hydraulics by using the 1450 valve and adding one from a 149 plumbed in series. I had to make my own levers, but I put them on the left side. IMO IH should have put the hyd lever on the left side. I don't know too many people with 2 right hands

I just joined this forum, and have found a ton of great info, Thanks guys! About 2 weeks ago I was given a CC-IH 128, it needed a new Bat. and was missing a couple of pieces. I got a hood and Upper grill from Chris Westfall, and a new muffler, and seat from IHCCW.

Here is what I did for a cheep fix for the upper grill for now till I find another... I just plan on putting a large washer on the back side of it and calling it a day. The plastic grill material was a grill from light fixture from where I work. I love left overs

Richard C,
I also moved the hydraulics on my 1450 to the left side.
With my older 149 the speed control is on the left so the hydraulics are nicer on the right.
It is my opinion that they should have moved the hydraulic lever to the left when they
moved the speed control to the right on the quietline series.
IH must have realized that because they fixed it when they started the 82 series.

Does anyone know where I can find the length of the driveshaft for a 582 with a creeper. Parts look up data shows lengths of driveshafts without creeper. I could not find the length of a driveshaft with creeper. Thanks

Arvin, if your 582 has the original driveshaft, it may already have the "cut line marked. And the hole may already be drilled out. At least that is how my 128 is.

Arvin F.
Here's a pic of the cut line that Todd mentioned.
The drive shaft cut for a creeper is 14 3/8" long.
With the 5 holes included in the shaft.

Charlie, Todd,

Thanks for the info. My driveshaft did not have a cut line. So 14 3/8" it will be. Thanks again. Arvin

Todd and Shane, thanks for the comments on the lift lever change. I am going to move the lift lever on this 1650 as I have to do a complete set up anyway. It has the clamp style coupler so it will be easy. If I like it I will change the others. My 1450 has a pin and I remember the time I had to replace it I learned a lot of new words.

Chris,
We'll see how it goes with the porting/polishing. It's a standard hot rod trick, some turbulence might mix the fuel a little better, but IMO it slows airflow into the combustion chamber. I've basically taken a few tricks out of David Kirk's playbook. He has a feature on the forum about Building a Killer Kohler. Here's the link:

https://www.ihcubcadet.com/KillerKohler/killer%20kohler%20part%20i.pdf

Anyway, I got the engine mostly together today, but because of the monsoons, I wasn't able to do any painting, but the piston, rings, valves, and breather are all together, as well as most of the tin. I also did a little polishing the undersides of the valves, I took a Dremel and carefully ground off the molded in numbers on the underside of the valves, and chucked them in the drill press and sanded the underside smooth, avoiding the seat area.

I do have a question for the forum members though. I need to put a grass screen on this engine, and am wondering if the grass screen from a K301AQS engine will work on the K241AS or K301AS engine?

Singing the computer blues again, the Gods of Thor and Zeus decided to mess with the Dell I just put together. The strike was a half a mile away, but it still snuck past a UPS and a surge supressor, and took out the motherboard.

HI! I'm new to the forum and I have a 126 w/ creeper gear. When I move/drive the creeper gear falls out of gear. Can you rebuild them?
