I have what I am pretty sure is a 42" cast iron deck but measuring across the blades I get 41". The outer blades are 10" long so I'm assuming I have outer blades for a 38" deck on there. Opinions?

Doug A.
The outer blades for a 38" deck are 10.19" long and the center blade is 19.97"

42" outer blades are 10.97" long and the center blade is 22.23"

Doug.... The center blade sits ahead of the outside ones so they can be brought together enough that their "circles" overlap the area covered by the center blade when traveling in a STRAIGHT line. I emphasize that because a tight turn may cause a slight amount of striping in the corner if the "sweep diameter" causes the blade circles not to overlap.

Doug, that's only 1/2" on each end. There is more overlap than that, so the only issue would be more likelihood of stripping on corners.

Doug... Sorry 'bout that.... It took me years to figure that striping on corners out ( I got the 129 in '85 and it might have been like '95) - I was SO eager to share it with somebody....
