James: Did you have to use any additonal parts other than the rubber and coupler?

morning all!! has anyone ever undercoated the bottom of their mower deck? just curious if it helps keep the grass from sticking?

Bruce, I downloaded DWG TrueView, it sure is clunky to use, not very intuitive. Switching between layers is a pain.

No progress on my Original refurb last night. Instead I spent the evening cutting and stacking firewood. I don't care much for slabwood, way too many small pieces. I much prefer cutting and splitting logs.

I know I'm not gonna get to my 125 refurb this year so I might have to mount the Killer Kohler into the 105 chassis I bought from Art. This 105 is in pretty good condition and would work well for a temporary break in chassis for the Killer Kohler. I might have to take a week off from work to get some projects moved along a little.

Earlier this summer I did have the Killer Kohler mounted into the 125 chassis but discovered that the wiring harness was shot so I decided to tear it down for a refurb.

I have way too many projects.

Kraig-
Isn't it funny how digging into one project makes you want to get rid of others?

That said, I'd be willing to take that red, white, and blue tractor in the back of your shed off your hands.

Charlie-
Well said!

Art, but that one is not a "project".

PSA,
I've had several emails in the last few weeks about people not seeing all the pics on the pages. Here's my reply and it's worked every time for them.

The first thing to do when you go to the page that pics are not showing up is, hit the F5 button on your keyboard.
If after that the pics show up, then dump your cache and do a disk cleanup & defrag more than once a year on your puter.

Dustin; Yes i had to use the flange 703-0204 with the rubber disc 722-3000 and coupling arm 748-3001 other then that I left rear of shaft with what was on tractor and it's been close to two years running like that and no problem. Jim

That's just where we always started when we wanted to get the users off our back, too......

582 Carburetor.

Can someone post exploded view, or assembly drawing of 582 carburetor? I have one apart and am a little unsure where to place large spring inside fuel pump.

Thanks,

My Stens rebuild kit for the K241 arrived today, so I got the block off to the machine shop for boring. I also found out it wasn't exactly plug and play, as the dipper on the new connecting rod will need to be "customized" for the flat bottomed oil pan. The machinist did a couple of quick checks on the deck for flatness, but said things looked pretty good, as did the valves. Hopefully I'll have it back early next week, and can start putting it back together.

After dropping off the engine block I drove up to the Arcadia Fairgrounds where the Maryland Steam Historical Society http://www.marylandsteam.org/ was kicking off their annual show and walked around a bit. There were a couple of Cub spec Kohlers up in the consignment auction area, including a K321 that initially stirred my interest a bit, until I turned it over and saw the ventilation holes in the block. Might have been worth a few bucks for the carburetor or the oil pan, but I didn't feel like sticking around to see if anyone got it.

I did find a few things I could use, like some air filters with precleaners, a piston ring compressor, and a few other odds and ends. I'll pop up there from time to time to see how things progress. Thursday is usually pretty slow, as people are just setting up, but the weather looks a bit iffy all weekend here. At least we aren't in Texas!!

what is the going rate for one of these "killer Kohler K321's" cost all painted up and pretty?
Also I am looking for the part numbers for the ST721 spindle bearings and seals? Maybe just the Timken bearing numbers to get an extra set for mine?
Thanks,
Mark

If you want info on a Killer Kohler, click Dave Kirks, Kirk's Engine button above.

The IH-ST721 and IH-ST745 are the same units and those numbers are replaced with 759-3479.
Oh yea, the Parts lookup Button above will also give ya those numbers and the others too.

Thanks Charlie D for the info.

I picked it up today, rusty but trusty as the saying goes

Want to buy the rake Brian Branstetter?
It is missing the wheels.

Thanks DIGGER.

Got the carburetor all together fine. Cub wouldn't run. Trouble was clogged up fuel line between tank and fuel filter. Got it running and was was driving around after dark really doing fine until I hit a hole, causing the poorly secured battery to bounce up and short out against the bottom of the seat. Saw sparks and it looked like a wire burning I could see between the left side of the gearshift and the frame. The battery really got hot! Won't know until daylight tomorrow if there was any damage done to wiring. I tried to charge the battery, but it pegs the needle on the charger and won't take the charge. Got any ideas??

By the way, Brother is selling the 582 to me. Now all the problems are mine, but at least I'll have a little more incentive to get it done ASAP. That's A-SAP, military lingo - not A S A P.

Thanks,

John-David Reaves Roll Tide
