Brendan, I am just used to using the clutch to stop instead of needing another hand to move the hydro lever + full size tractors work the same way and im used to that
 
Josh - you ever used a Cub Hydro?? You have a brake pedal just like a gear drive to stop - it is linked to the hydro linkage and puts the hydro in neutral....
 
Just wondering if anybody could tell me if a wideframe snow plow off a 129 will fit a 782 and if so what parts do i need for the lift rod?? thank you , Brett

I would prefer a gear drive over a hydro because i am worried that i would ruin the the hydro doing some work a little too strong for it.

I prefer gear drives too

Ever driven a tractor using the creeper a lot? It SUCKS...WAY too much shifting with two shifters. The creepers don't like to go between ranges easily, so you gotta sit there and fart with the clutch and creeper lever until it goes into gear...repeat for every hi/low shuttle...it's no wonder to me why most people put loaders on hydros, and is why mine's going on a hydro as soon as I can get my hands on a 682. Besides, I'm too tall for narroframes anyway...there's no room for my knees with the loader on the 124.

Most of the wide frame axles that are broken seem to break where the idlers have cut a gash in the axle. I don't know anything about narrow frame axles and if the idlers get out of adjustment on them and cut a slice in them or not but it may be something silly like that. Just a thought.

The NFs have that problem too...I don't think they got the mule drive geometry fixed until the 82 series, as I don't think I've seen any 82 series with that damage, but I've seen it on practically everything else.
 
I can't sleep... too wound up and my legs are once again having muscle spasms. So I am on dialup trying to get sleepy enough to fall asleep.

Now if I recall... A few years back there was talk of the 15U pumps being used on I believe the older small New Holland skid loaders. I never verified that. I just vaguely remember the jest of it. You don't need to worry about hurting a 15U hydro by putting a loader on your hydro Cub Cadet. They are built very rugged for such a little unit and are actually somewhat overkill for garden tractors. That is why they've lasted so long.

Now about the part of too many levers. Years back I had a chance to use a 656 Utility Hydro with loader. Once I got the hang of it .... WOW!!! I was sold. On the steering part.... When the bucket was down sometimes the front wheels were lifted in the air due to the angle of the bucket. One hand one the hydro and the other on the TWO loader levers. If I had too I would briefly touch the right pedal to put the tractor into neutral.

On the front axles and breaking them. Throughout the years, I've seen many Cub Cadet front axle where those pesky mule drive pulleys wore grooves into the casting. I also remember my Dad saying that Cub Cadets were known for weak axles. (He pointed that out when we saw a Cub Cadet sitting in the farmer's yard with a broken axle and it had been mowing lawn.Since it was on highway 150 (now 130) between Bennett and Tipton, I often wonder if someone wasn't showing off by doing wheelies.

Kendell I, YES i have and you are right. But I like it better because its just one less action you have to perform than with a hydro. I liked blowing snow with my 124 because i could push the clutch in with my foot and concentrate on other important things. You have to always have you hand on that hydro lever whenever you are driving them. I just prefer gear drives, thtas all guys.
 
i hate hydros because you always have to play with something, you cant get smooth control over the hydro lever worn out ones are very jerkey, hard to keep a constant speed, and as someone said before you can steer and operate the bucket while driving into a pile with a gear drive... you have the abality to slip the clutch, etc. ive never had a problem hauling wood up hills in thick woods with my 71 and it doesnt have a creeper, not to mention the numerous other tight spaces ive gotten it in to
