Spent part of the afternoon on my 582 with 44"deck and new to me Peco vac bagger. Slick set up that really did a number on the leaves (gators and vac are a great combo!)
 
Quick question, I am working on a Late Build ('79) 1650. What is the quickest way to tell which carburetor is on the engine? I need to, at least pull the bowl off and clean out / inspect the float and float needle. When you turn on the fuel shut-off, the gas is a WATERFALL out of the throat of the carb....

At this point, the carb is visible, as I have the air cleaner and backing plate off so I could remove the fuel line......

Look in the carb hole and see if there's a raised number at the top inside.
Also see if it's a Carter or Walbro on the outside.
 
For Charlie's post yesterday, most of the older Case's with the desert sand and original flambeau red had the 2 holes drilled in the cover of the air filter. NEVER leave them pointed up if you park the tractor outside un-covered, or you'll find the cylinder filled with water after you remove the head when it won't turn over...
I've had several and still do have one borrowed from my 220 on the 1200. I've been missing the rod for the choke on the engine for about 4 years now. Not using the quiet line air filter housing and not running side panels are how I use the choke. Mowed with the #1-1450, Jeff B's tag line is extremely true...

OK, Just to confirm, Looking at the outside of the carb, I see no name cast into the outside of the carb. Looking down the throat, if the choke butterfly is closed, there is a K stamped into the butterfly plate. If I open the choke butterfly and look down the boar in the 12 o'clock position where there is a slight taper there appears to be 2 characters cast into the carb. It is still mounted on the engine, so it is somewhat difficult to make out standing on my head... LOL... So, does this sound like a Kohler carb?

So set on your butt, shine a flashlight in the hole to see the numbers, LOL

Walbro and Carter both could have numbers in there.

Went to change out the front wide "flotation" wheels on my 128 for some narrow ones, only to find the spindles are too large for the narrow wheels.

Would a front axle off of a 122 fit on a 128 with no modifications?

Marty G. Do you have one inch spindles" If so then just get a set of 3/4" spindles and you're ready to go. I had to do that when I loaned the 108 front spindles to a friend for the winter. He needed good tires so he could run the 129 (his) with the front blade. I removed the narrow tires/rims from Clarence (102) and put them on the 108 for now. Someone must've added the 1" spindles to your 128.

Charlie P. I'll get a couple of pictures of a real nice IH endloader if you're interested. It could become part of your snow removal team. Or you can just call Bob and he'll gladly take some and send them your way. He's a great guy... Daily Auction and Implement Company. It came from our town's fire marshall's estate along with a bunch of antique CASE cross engine tractors and some IH tractors.

Marlin or anyone,

Are the spindles on the narrow frames the same as the wide frames?
I want to put the 4.80 x 8.00 tires and rims on the 128.

I've interchanged wide and narrow rims on my 1x9s with no issues as long as they all were 3/4" . If you have 1" spindles you may have a quietline axle setup on your tractor. And you can put a narrow frame axle on your wide frame with modifications. My 109 has an axle from a 106 on it. The steering link will hit the frame and mule drive if it isn't shortened. (which is an easy mod).
 
All you need are a set of 3/4" wide frame spindles, then you can run narrow front rims if you'd like.

You need not change the whole axle, just the spindles.

Early QL's had 3/4" as did all XX8/9's, later QL's had 1" spindles, as did all 82 series GT's
