Since you brought up the driveshaft/rag joint, here is where my next project is headed after I get my parts and get my 1450 hydro back together.

I'm not impressed with the length of service I get out of the quietline rag joints and since my 1450 is an early version it only has one flex disc on the front and one on the rear.

The later model Quietlines had two flex discs on the rear and that was an improvement and then the 782 had two discs both front and rear. The only problem is they sell you the discs same as the quietline with the big center, which is required to go over the coupler. I use one with the big hole to attach next to the coupler and then back that one up with one of the old 1XX series with the smaller holes behind it and I get better results on my 782.

When I put my 1450 back together I am going to re-drill the drive shaft so I can mount 2 disc both front and rear or if I have to I will build a new drive shaft, I will use one of the quietline discs and one of the older style discs both front and back. I think this is a must if you are going to use your tractor for more than just mowing.

Wes ,Kraig
Ihave tri-ribs on my 70 its been at 2 pds plus 2 years of mowing and misc chores and they are tubless w/ no problems at all...In fact my 123 has a fresh set of tri-ribs to that are tubeless as well... no problems with either

Is there a clear protective coating or paint I can put on tbe gas tanks to keep the rattle can yellow from wrinkling the regular cub rattle can yellow!!

Forgive the last posting, I was on the phone and cannot listen and write at the same time I was refering to damage done by gas on the rattle can yellow. Sorry for the wasted space. Come on 30th!!!

KRAIG - I tried My suit jacket on a couple weeks ago I bought 4-5 yrs ago and I was thinking I was more a BIAS BELTED version now more so than anything else.....;-)

Kraig:

When I do a tractor over, I put tubes in the tires, it is the only sure way to keep air in them. Tubeless may be ok with blasted and painted rims and new tires but anything other needs a tube to be sure that it will hold air.

I wouldn't worry about living in a swing state, it looks like your swinging the right way on the tube issue and the slant grille issue and,

Steve, I think that is your East end as you're headed West. Note the cars at the west end of the field.

Nice outfit!

Can somebody post a picture of a sleeve hitch on a 782? and will one off of a 1650 work? if so,what do you have to change? thanks Don

A "WORDY" POST!!
Like Wes said, I believe in tubes on the front narrow tires! Especially those old rims! Problem with plowing is when air pressure gets low, you can roll those tires right off the rim! Without a tube, you are screwed! It was fun however driving back from the other end on the RIM! I had a tube on hand and immediately fixed the problem!

In light of this, I'll contribute 1 pair of tubes for the 4"x8" size for the door prizes this weekend at Steve's place. OK?

Steve & Digger, You can give them out 1 at a time if you like!

I may have a few extra on hand if anyone wants them. Maybe a few other "Goodies" too!

OK Digger?

Anyone making reservations yet in El Paso?
Email me, my wife & I should arrive around 8 p.m. Hopefully! If everything is go for PD8! Love to go out for Pizza Friday night with all or anyone interested in talking plowing or watching World Series! Will there be a game Friday night?

I had asked a couple of times about putting tubeless tires on the Original wheels. I never got an answer to that question. I have never taken an Original tire(front or back) that didn't have a tube in it. I got into a discussion about this over the weekend. I don't think Original tires were ever intended to be mounted tubeless as any other wheel always has a valve stem listed with it in the revised TC-113. The Original front wheel has a different bead than the rest of the NF front wheel and has grease fitting. I did find in the old Original parts list that the part#(376 187 R91) is different than the Revised TC-113 that lists all the front narrow wheels(386 188 R92. I also found that the 70/100 narrow wheel had a different part #(384 880 R91) and didn't have a valve stem listed with it as the wide tire had a valve stem listed. I think they started the narrow tubeless tire on 71/1xx models.

I always use tubes in the Original> Paul Bell provided the part numbers.

I bought a set of triple ribs from Tucker Tire last week WITHOUT tubes.

Kent -

I hope you're excited about it in an "old document" kind of way and not that you need help knowing how to hitch it

John L,
I aon't got anything to do with PD other than being a cyber gopher but I'm sure Steve will be more than happy to take what ever you and OTHERS will give for door prizes. Bring a truck load and I'll make sure that everyone thanks you personally for your generosity. ;-p

Mark Roxby,
I've found that cold weather starts with diesel engines you've gotta' have plenty of "spin". On the Cat's if it's a slow crank, forget it. I think Kevin has the ticket. Hey Kev, where didja' get the starter, and did it nead any retrofitting??

Did some playing in the black dirt/topsiol today myself. Still wet in this neck of the woods (+/- 50 mi. N/W of Chicago).

There was some talk of parts swapping prior to the original PD rain out. Any thoughts of making plans if it's a "No Go" on the 30th.? Tommy Skilliethead and other Weather Guessers don't paint a pritty picture for later this week.

Digger, Being a cyber "gophher" SP? is a huge part of Plow Days, how do you think we all find out about it and register?

THANKS!!!

I found that when Tucker Tire included tubes with the tri-ribs, that it's tires look better when they arrive. When they ship them from China, they band them in bundles and it distorts them! If you put them in the hot sun, they will return to their normal configuration, but they look bad to start with. I think the reason Tucker Tire shipped with the tubes was to improve first impression. I still like to use tubes though in the front tires!

I'd guess the answer is, it depends on the condition of your tire and wheel/rim!

Hard to argue with success or failure!

Boy you guys are giving Skilling an ass kickin' down there...
