Thomas H. Limner (Tlimner)I do believe CCs above has that roller in stock.Later Don T

i would like to know the deminsions as well, i got a friend that will make me steel ones!

Thomas L.,

The one I've got right here is not new, but it measures approximately 6" long, 2.25" diameter, with a 1/2" hole thru the length of it.
Of course, the wood grain runs the length...

Dave R.,
When you get a chance, if it isn't too much of a bother, I'd still like to get that modified QL (?) deck pulley part number from ya if I could.

Thanks!

Ryan, It was mabey 10 years ago I did that. I looked back in the vault and it only goes back to Sept. 03. I've moved three times since then I know I don't any paper work. I'm going out to the house tomorrow I have 2 of those decks. One has the smaller pulley, one doesn't I can at least give the outside dimensions for you.
Here's what I got from the parts lookup
44A has 2 part numbers for that pulley (They call it a pulley) IH-59703-C3 fits serial number 81741 and below it's also the same pulley for 44 and 50 inch decks.
IH126393-C1 for 81742 and above, only fits the 44 inch deck.
Only one pulley listed for the 44C. But I'm sure thats for the red tractors (a 5/8 pulley).
I got three cub dealers within range of me. I'll do some calling tomorrow and see if one of them has either one of the 44A pulleys in stock. you never know. I think it's gonna be that C3 number but we'll see.

Randy and Dennis:
Wow....
The pullers might want to look at that system - if data logging is allowed - 11 channels, including barometric pressure. I'll have to show it to my dragster owner.....He just put big bucks in the engine.

Now let see, where could we put this to use on an everyday Cub?? I know, on somebody's Plow Day special - get the ultimate furrow.......at top speed...

For tire chains I use 2 link cross chain that is twisted with a v welded on every link that goes across to each side. I used just standard type snow chain before and they worked pretty good. But the these v-bar type chains work alot better but cost more also. Ice has no chance agaist the v-bar type chains! Nice to back guys!

I have a velometer at work that measures air flow that I use almost every day. i may have to sneak it home and use it on the 782.

THOMAS & All - I've replaced several of those wooden rollers...with wooden rollers made by cutting 2X4's, etc, with large hole saws. I make them as BIG as will fit on the spindle/axle. Oak seems to last the longest, something from an old shipping pallet, but the pine ones on the frt of My 38" deck have been over a LOT of ground and still work fine.

KENDELL - I haven't read the NQS pulling rules in MWSC's catalog, but like most things I suspect data logging is allowed by some sanctioning bodies and not by others. But ALL Data is good data as long as it's accurate.

Son & I did discuss switching a Kohler over to EFI a couple years ago. Ford based of course, all the parts & the tuner are already in the shop. Only problem would be making a BIGGER straight pipe, not enough room in the current 1-1/2" pipe for the EGT probe & O2 sensors.

DONALD T. - My Buddy keeps rubbing the fact His Allis Chalmers 5020 diesel compact utility tractor mows his yard THREE times on about the same amount of gas I burn to mow my similar sized yard ONCE. Those little diesel's just barely SIP fuel. Make sure You never dump gasoline in them, I've never done it but the diesel pickup site have a post every week about someone doing that. It gets messy! Isn't Your Dodge a Cummins?

UPS brought my super steer front axle from Ray Weaver yesterday. There's a huge difference in steer angle vs. my stock 126. I'm debating whether to use wide or narrow front wheels. I like the look of the skinnies, but the floatation of the wide wheels would be nice when tilling. I'm also wondering if there's going to be clearance issue with the wide tires and the 48" deck. Anyone have experience with a super steer axle on a narrow frame with wide fronts and the 48" deck? Thanks, Jerry

Jerry,

IIRC, there is an issue with clearance,, Kraig should have pics on this one.....

Dennis Frisk (Isn't Your Dodge a Cummins?). My ram does have a 12 valve and I have a throttle plate ordered for it now to give me another 215 lbs torque for towing the 5th wheel. I did put diesel fuel in a 750 Honda once by mistake and had to take the tank off to drain it all out. I will have a fuel can marked for the 1512 and hope i don`t make that error. I ordered new parts from Charlie last night so i can redo the drive shaft as soon as it comes home here on the 24th. I do have a deck 42" here and a sub frame from a 149 and hope to use it on the 1512 and try it mowing and a 53" snow blade that I want to install also. My plans are to use the D for a general worker. Wow i just did a count in my head and i have 8 and soon 9 Cubs( had to look at my profile to count them lol) This is bad I know. Later Don T

Dennis:
There's a guy here in MI that has developed a small engine EFI that was supposed to be retrofittable...(spell checker just gagged on that one). Big deal in dirt bikes right now is one that runs off the charging system with no battery - just a large capacitor to store juice from the first kick to get it going on the second..

On another subject - If I'd have thought about it back in '04, I would have considered a Cub with the Super Steer mod, combined with a power steering mod, rather than going to the ZTR. The Cub wouldn't always want to slide diagonally down the side of the slopes on the lawn - there's a couple of places on our yard (not much, but they're there) that I can't mow any more for fear of ending up in the deep county drain that's right next to our house....

See - more opinions on chains (grin)...

Out to split wood today, cut a 60' ash yesterday, hope I didn't break any laws on transporting it from the neighbors field, might have been across the township border.. (we're in the ash borer zone and this one has 'em under the bark)

Scott, Jerry, no photos of the Super Steer front axle AND 48" deck on a narrow frame.

I do have these in progress photos of Wyatt's NF Cub with the Super Steer axle. Wyatt also added 5 bolt hubs which I believe moves the tires/wheel farther out.

Kraig, Could you provide part numbers for that "super steer" front axle and spindles? I have found a supplier that has several front axles, but he lists them by part number, not model.

Tony, all I can say is that the axle that Wyatt used is from an MTD Cub Cadet model 1541. (you should be able to use the Parts Lookup to find the part number for it using the 1541 model number) Not sure where he got the 5 bolt hubs from.

Tony H., / Kraig McC.,
The hubs may have come from here:
http://www.northerntool.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_6970_200334718_200334718

They have several different 4 and 5-lug combinations, center hole sizes, and seal/bearing sizes for various-sized spindle pins.

I'd suggest you determine what the spindle pin size will be and if you'll be using a 4 or 5-lug configuration and what size center hole wheels you'll be using... that should narrow down which hub to locate.

The hubs were trailer parts from Northern tool, they were turned down to fit on the stock 1541 spindle without extending it. A sleeve had to be made for the inner bearing to ride on, it is a slight press-fit and uses Loctite to stay in place. The spindle has a large set screw threaded into the hub (again, secured with Loctite) and then uses a crimped lock nut (in lieu of a nylon insert lock nut) with a hardened washer to keep the spindle in place, and the proper pressure kept on the taper roller bearings. Wish I would have made a drawing on the spindle modification, it worked really well and used a minimum of parts in addition to the stock Cub parts. Keep in mind the 1541 axle and the like uses a very similar spindle to the narrow frame tractors, the only exception that they're 1" instead of the smaller diameter.

One more thing - using the female threaded hubs - you can find the 1/2" fine thread "IH" stamped wheel bolts at most ag-salvage yards. It keeps it looking as close to "just like IH woulda built it" as you can get.
