Tony H,

Watch what you wish for. Once you get that "Tugboat" chained up, weighted down, with a nice plow AND she see's what it will do. You might not get her off it. Then there goes all your fun...

Hey Guys, how do you fasten the long bar of a sleeve hitch to the rock shaft on an 82 series? Thanks for any help and especially if there is a picture available.

Update on my cub fleet: The 73 refurbish project is now done--ready (and excited!) to try it out at Buck Creek on October 19.

The basket pulley on my 70 has been replaced. Fortunately no damage to the crank keyway and, gladly, no more vibration.

The noisy brakes on my 100 have been adjusted (no more squealing) and it was noticed the throttle bracket needed tightening. What a difference that made...a third more power at high throttle!

Here are a few pics of three of my cubs...(the 123 is at my other place so I couldn't include it here, but I'll post another pic after I get my newly painted front blade mounted...the subframe I have should work for this). Many THANKS to everyone on the forum for your ongoing helpful advice, support, and generous assistance!

Nice pics Frank?
I always liked the marketing scheme with the young ladies on garden tractors. IH had a few.

2 link chains vs 4 link.....

Give me the 2 link every time.....its the weight of the tractor on the chain that makes the bite, and I'll take more steel on the ground!

Steve S,

Nice fleet! You should be proud of them and your efforts!

Steve S., nicely done!

William, there should be a block with a stud on it that is bolted to the rockshaft. The lift bar then attaches to that. All I have are the manuals for the narrow frame version which is slightly different but may give you an idea of how it attaches. Here are some of the images from the narrow frame rear lift manual:

Steve S--they look great! I can't wait to check that 73 out in person next weekend at Buck Creek! Good work on the restoration. Ya done good

Thanks Keith, I should mention that the hitch I am trying to mount is from a 1450. I don't know if there is a difference or not. Where it mounts on the 782 looks different to me. I can't see any place for the small steel block to bolt to. Can it be that the long bar bolts directly to the rock shaft? If so, it would need a bushing. I'll keep working on it. Any further advice will be much appreciated.

William Best

The small block bolts fast to the arm on the rock shaft with short bolts . the lift bar slides on the block over the pin .Look close to the lift cylinder where it connects to the arm on the rock shaft. where the float lock out bolt would go.the lift block will bolt fast on the frame side of the lift arm. it was not much room on my 149 to install the block and the two bolts with lock washers that hold it to the lift arm. Pass the lift arm through the frame from behind and install the clip and your done .

Quick question. We talk about back spacing on rear wheel rims, but what about front rims? Seems my Cub Cadets have a mixed bag when it comes to front rims. In addition some rims have the valve stem where when the front wheel is mounted the stem to the inside and others to the outside of the rim.

Bill J - the valve stems on IH CC's always go to the outside.
Narrow frame front wheels have the wide offset to the outside and valve stem to the outside.
Wide frame front wheels have the narrow offset to the outside and valve stem to the outside.
If you have the wheels reversed on your 1650 (14hp) then the valve stems will hit on the axle spindle and eventually the valve stem will split, break or snap off.
If you want to give your 1650 a "wide front stance" use the narrow frame wheels (wide offset to outside and valve stem outside). Have a look at the pic in my profile and you'll see some "Pre-production" front wheels on my 169 (well, they were produced for NF tractors).

William B - I believe the sleeve hitch for an IH 782 gets a straight long bar. Your long bar from the 149 should be curved so I don't think it will connect. I don't know if that small block is the same.

Thanks for the help Guys. I will continue this installation on Monday and let you know how I come out.

HARRY, BILL J. - I think the 3-3/8" x 8 wheels for the 4.00/4.80X8 frt tires are pretty close to even on spacing inside & outside, which if I remember right, means no "back spacing", or at least not enough to notice.

The 5-3/8" x 8 wheels for the 16-6.50X8 tires are as Harry described. The 7" W x 8" dia frt wheels for the 18-8.50X8 frt tires on SGT's are also off-set wider towards the outside too.

Picked up a hitch pin for the plow and longer carrige bolts for the extra weight on the left side.
Here is apicture of the loaded ags I will be using.

I hope to have the cub cadet 169 plow set up ready for picture Tuesday

Dennis if your not busy saturday Buck
Creek plow day is about 2 1/2 hours from ya

William B,

Mounting an IH 3 pt hitch on a 782 is a bit different than a 1450. First you need a pair of frankenstein bolts w/jam nuts to mount the rear lift arm to the frame. Late QL models used these as well whereas the early models used a 1/2" diameter steel pin running through the lift arm and rear frame bushings. The lift bar running up to the hydraulic lift/rock shaft mounts directly to the .50" dia. pin that attaches your hydraulic lift cylinder to the rock shaft arm. You will need a longer pin for this. The lift bar on a 782 is also different as it is straight whereas the lift bar you have has a kink towards the front and is slightly longer ~1 inch.

The pictures Kraig posted are for a narrow frame hitch installation and there's no mounting block stud bracket required on a 782. I think one of the sponsors above has the Frankenstein bolts w/jam nuts available that you will need to mount the rear cast lift to the frame. I have made a 1X8/9/QL sereies wide frame lift bar into a 782 lift bar by heating it up and straightening it to remove the kink, drilling a new hole to attach it to the rock shaft and shortening it on the front end.

Keep those plow pics coming!
The die is cast, the mold is made . . .
Tonight I committed to buy a 102 for more than I've spent yet at one time on any of these yellow and white things that have overtaken my life.
But wait-- there's more:
A quick look at it earlier this afternoon shows it wearing a cute little harrow attached to a Brinly (or style) hitch, and a land plow and IH push plow comes with it. If it doesn't have a creeper gear at least it has the handle/knob that makes it look that way.
There's still more (I didn't mention the wheel weights - I saw 1, anyway).
1 more tractor (especially a gear drive) I can do without, but with the cards that Life is dealing me right now make me want it for the attachments and parts that will allow me to take JackieO (the 125) to OxBow and play in the dirt on my sister's farm.
The sun will shine tomorrow, life is good, pics to follow.

Was a good week, Even I was super busy during harvest. A buddy picked me up a 70 with fenders, IH weights, and a good running 8hp and a Real nice #2 cart at an auction. (Note in the cart the factory embroidered pan seat!) Dropped it off Thursday night. Then Friday morning my parts guy from Wis (Thanks Dan!) dropped off a #40 box blade!

John, what a great friend you have there! Nice score!! It breaks my heart to see that box blade. I one came with my 128 and it sat for years at my dads place. When I finally went to bring it home, he had sold to a guy down the street and he won't give it up.

It's still hard to swallow that one. I want my blade back!
