Marty - very nice 128! My 149, 122, and others might look like that some day, maybe.

Charlie - I feel better this morning for being totally stumped on the belt guard, or chain guard, or not-so-good drink holder you displayed on the last page. Seems I'm no the only one wondering what it is. I'd venture a guess that its for a Snowthrower, as I type this maybe its for an Original attachment? I don't have much knowledge of Originals, but I really have no idea.

Jason - when my garage is ready for a Cub to come home I'll post pick of my cart I made to easily maneuver it inside my now small 2 car garage.

I'm stumped as well about that guard Charlie posted. Being from the south and the fact I've never seen it before I'm inclined to think it is used on a snow thrower/blower. We don't work with those a lot down here. I've never seen anything like that used on a tiller; it would scoop dirt like crazy if used over the rear bottom pulley.

I also think with a little TLC the "old" could be made as good as the "new". All it appears to need is some soap and water, a little tweaking, a weld or two, and a little paint.

What the heck is it Charlie????

.

Charlie, that looks like a # 79-954-C1 to me. In other words a belt guard for under the 90* gear box on a tiller for the belt that goes to the PTO.

The mystery part covers this:

David S., nailed it on the previous archived page. Jeff B., seconded it.

Geez - I guess that mystery belt guard will almost always be missing. Looks to me like it's pretty low to the ground when mounted and has a natural scoop on the front edge that will probably cause it to pull off pretty quickly during use. No wonder they're almost always missing. I've never seen one before.

I have a quick question. When I bought my 108, the heat shield that fits over the cylinder head and muffler shield were both off the tractor (I guess the PO took them off, but never put them back on.) Since I have owned it, I have been using it without either of them. Is it still safe to use the tractor without them, or should I try and find them???

Thanks Jeff- I guess I'll put an ad up in the Wanted section. This thing is starting to turn into a money pit!!

Billy D - when you were (or will be) 40 years old I'm sure you needed a little money. Putting a little money into your 108 now to fix what some PO did, might just save you a lot more money for years to come. The correct parts you need for a K241A Kohler in a CC 108, are pretty common - it's just making sure you get the correct parts that's a little harder.

Thanks Harry. I know you are right, but when money is low it can be frustrating dealing with equipment that needs repairs, especially after putting 60 bucks into it already.

I only gave $325 for the tractor, but I have much more than that in it. While it has been fun slowly fixing the negligence of the PO, it has been very taxing on my wallet, and to an extent my patience.

While the initial investment may be quite a lot, I think that what you were saying is right- it should pay for itself in the long run. Thanks for the encouragement/talk Harry, I needed it!

Billy D. (and Greetings to West By God Virginia), I envy you - you just have 1 to deal with. But wait! I see you have a 2135 in your profile. Can you depend on it to do your mowing and the 108 is to enjoy and tinker on? My ulterior motive for that question is I'm very close tonight to going to "my" dealer and seeing what we can work out on a nice, new, warenteed new one - one I can at least mow with while I work on "the real ones".
