. . . and you come up with the answer: "It seemed like the thing to do at the time". (Didn't Cliint Eastwood tell that to a judge?).

That great modification and no hood ornament.

Silver is a poor man's chrome (and they're clean) Anybody want to tell us what it would cost to have a rim chromed or a place to buy a set?

Hi Frank! Greetings from West Virginia to Northern Maine! When I lived in Ohio, I purchased that 2135 as a basket case. It was a mess. This was the first tractor that I 'restored', but didn't spend a significant amount of money on (didn't have it then either!).

I have since sold that tractor, but when I had it I used to mow with it, plow our driveway in the winter, and do general yard work with. It was a decent tractor, definitely one of the better built modern day ones. It was what got me into Cub's, and when I bought my 108, I was hooked. Up until I sold it, the 108 was my tinker toy.

I am not too sure about the brand new ones, but that 2135 was a good worker. I am now down to the 108 as my main tractor, though I have a newer (late 90's) Murray I am working on as well. We have so much to mow down here, I want 2 tractors in good working order at all times, that way if one goes down, I have a spare to use until I fix the other.

Hopefully I can locate these shields soon, since I 'promoted' the 108, I have really enjoyed using it!

Pay attention, Billy D.. when you come in here check all the posts made since your last visit. It will be both entertaining and informative, not neccesarily in that order.

Billy D - I know sometimes the problems do start to get to you. I'm also glad you realize $325 isn't much of an initial investment for one of these units. Heck, you'll probably be able to get that back out of it whenever you do sell it, as long as it runs. Maybe even more than that if it looks good and everything seems in good condition and operates really well.

Now, I see Frank C is gonna help you out with the tin work and heat shield you need. Frank has got to be one of the best members and contributors on here, and deserves alot of thanks from all of us. Sure I poke a little fun at him now and then, but I know he can take it and he's also got a great heart. Heck, anyone from Maine that can handle the Governor they have, must have a big heart (or something else that ain't quite right)

Overheating will kill your Kohler K241 so when you do get the tin covers and heat shield I'd recommend pulling your engine and removing the flywheel shroud to make sure you don't have any grass clipping cake all over every where and stopping the air flow. If it's all caked up on the cooling fins clean it off good and then put it all back together and re-install the engine. Make sure you note specifically where the choke and throttle cables attached so you don't have issues re-connecting.

Overall I'm just trying to say you have to expect to have to put money into your 40+ year old tractor and you should try not to overtask it. It sounds like you want it mostly for mowing based on your last posts. It should be a good unit for that. Previous PO abuse and neglect needs to be addressed and you're probably working thru that now along with other issues as they occur. Hope you have a copy of the Service Manual by now too.

Most of us have been in your shoes at one time or another. Keep posting on here about your problems and we'll all keep helping ya. It'll also go along way to help with any frustration.

Keep the faith, and Good luck with your 108.

I'm still working on the 44A mower deck for my grandson's 1250, and got my confirmation today for the parts I ordered, so I thought I'd check the fit of everything on my 1450. But I don't think I have the right mule drive. Can anyone tell me if this one is correct or not? (Grandson's 1250 is s/n #534763)

The last picture shows the idler arms both appear bent, but if it's not the correct mule, I won't waste a lot of time trying to straighten the idler arms.

If someone can post a photo of the correct mule drive, I'd be grateful.

That mule drive is an 82 series. It has 5/8" idlers.

They are supposed to be offset ( twisted ) on a 44" deck.

That one would work with 1/2" idlers, but technically it is a later model mule drive than what is correct for a QL

Thanks, Steve. I think I may have some 1/2" idlers around here somewhere, but not sure of their condition. Maybe time for another 'Wanted' ad.
