Wayne - I said I wasn't the Correct Police (just filled in on occasion). Since "correct" replacement engines were black and I liked the black contrast with the yell'r n white, I use it on all my engines.

Jason - as far as I know all the 169's came with manual lift from the factory and the dealers either supposed to or could order the hydraulic lift kit for it. The original hydro pump from the factory was the ported version so it was a fairly easy upgrade.

(I'll put this in parenthesis so not everyone knows. I happened to find an assortment of very small thin stainless washers or shims and used them behind many of the bolts. Like the bolts holding the pedestal to the frame. Once installed you can't even see them since they are so thin and ever so slightly smaller than the bolt heads. You might have noticed all my bolts are painted with a silver/grey so it would be easy to see any paint chipping but the washer/shims kept it from happening).

"That's All For Now"

What the Heck,,,,

How Long have you Had it?

Was it a Whole tractor when you Bought it?

Did "you" tear it down to the Frame? I see none of the Hydraulics have been Opened up?

Do you have Attachments?

Trunion ok?

Done any Repairs Yet?

How's the K321A ? If it came with one when Purchased.

I didn't take mine down as far as You Have. I got Lucky found one in Working order only needing cosmetic work and few Repairs due to normal wear over 42yrs!!!!

Hydro-

Your 169 looks good; don't get me wrong. I was just talking about the heat shield. I know replacement engines came black. I've also heard that 169s came with the hydraulic lift as standard until they had a shortage. That's when the manual lifts were used and easily reversed back to hydraulic through a dealership. I've never heard of them ALL coming with manual lift.

Regarding the 169 manual/hydraulic lift, from the archives:

Kraig-

Thanks for posting that notice about the 169s. Now I'm confused about the warning towards the bottom that states the 169s with the hand lifts had the extra large pump for the hydrostatic transmission. What does that mean? Is that another way of saying the pumps are ported?

Just curious.

Hey Hydro-

You need to get a plastic bag for your seat like Jims 169 to make it look like it just arrived from the factory.

I won't post the after pic, it makes Kraig upset.

Kraig - Oh Great One Keeper of the Photos - Now you've gone and done it. You had to post a pic of Jim C's 169. Since Jim and Kenny W overhauled my K341A engine while I supervised (er, watched and handed them tools, torqued the head bolts, installed the carb, and other things) in Jim's shop, I just about completed my 169 assembly there as well. Here's a couple photos of Jim's and my 169. Jim was probably the Chief Of Correct Police. His 169 is perfect (except maybe that long choke cable which he probably did shorten - and by the way, yes the little button on my PTO engagement lever is painted IH Red. I thought since it could engage a "danger" function like a mowing deck or snow thrower, it should be RED. I did this on all my resto tractors, which later on also made it easy to tell if it was one I had done). And yes, that's a snow blade in the background of the first pic. Jim picked that up to use on his truck - it does snow on occasion in Mass.).
