Brendan, I have never needed that much ammo when out cubbin! Must be a nice area.

Brendan wins first prize for best use of recyclable material
(and also because, where there's ammo cans. there's bound to be a guy with the ammo...)

What are the differences between a right angle snow thrower gear box and a right angle gear box for the tiller? They interchangable?

By pictures they sure look the same.

Remember...Ammo is your friend !! You can never have too much !!

Those surplus ammo cans are great, I also use those for carrying tools around when I go to the junk yards. And the best part, their water proof.

Huh, never came across that one...
And here I thought you guys had some sort of inside code going on here.... Secret club kind of stuff...
Well, there goes the magic...

Brendan:
They've been a part of every shop since I was a kid- Dad had a line of the smaller ones from WWII, bought as surplus right after the war...I've still got 'em..

How is the crowd in Wisconsin and Minnesota? Grand Rapids radar is showing nasty there and heading this way....

Hey guys,
I'm looking for another cub for grass cutting duty,my yard is not huge, about a 1/2 an acre with some buildings on it.Would an "O" with the 38" deck do a good job? Not that I am questioning the capability of any cub but does the "O" do a decent job compared to some of the newer cubs. I'm from north of the border and the "O" in the classifieds caught my eye. There are few cubs up here and they are very expensive.
thanks,Dave

Dave, I have heard that the 38" timed deck that was used on the Original are one of the nicer cutting decks around. I have never used the one I have, it was taken apart when I got it. I hope to have it refurbished and put together this summer. Anyway, that's what I've heard, that they are nice cutting decks.

Kendell, all fine here.

RE: Balance Gears..
Just wondering.....based on the manual, Kohler changed the balance gear needle bearings to an open style in 1979 (after SN 9641311). My replacement engine (SN2334306773) was built in 1993 (I bought it new in mid-1995). Is there any evidence as to whether the change in bearing type from a caged to open made a difference in the kaboom factor?? This would have been late 1000 - 1200 - 1250 - 1450 - 1650's.. Anybody know if they've had the newer engines puke the gears like the older ones?
I am aware what Kohler mechanics were recommending on the replacements (take 'em out..) from Jerry Bliler's experience, but that could have been based on their experience's with the older, more prevalent style bearing equipped engines.

KENDELL - Storm last night must not have been too bad here around Madison, Wife & I slept thru the "Worst?" part of it. News this AM says a farm in NE Dodge Cty, north & west of MILW. had a couple barns & trees blow down and killed a couple dairy cows.

Yep, AMMO boxes are good storage, I bought a couple 30 Cal. 30 yrs ago, too small but the surplus store didn't have 50 cal. at the time.

Gernade (balance) gears? Engineering change to bearings? IMHO if they're hermetrically sealed in an AMMO box in a dark dusty corner of Your shop they won't cause catastrophic engine failure. I just don't think those little 1/2" dia shafts & needle bearings are up to the task of handling the imbalance of those gears at the speed they run.

Jerry B,
How did you make out during the storms last Friday and last night? Any Cubbin' pulling down limbs or anything? We didn't have power from Friday AM until Saturday Noon. Neighbor let me plug the fridge into his generator. Man, I gotta find me a dead generator from the ice storm and build a Cub mounted unit. Lots of people didn't know you had to put oil in the engine before running the motor.

Has anyone used one of the Harbor Freight generator heads and built a Cub mounted unit? They're $299 for a 10,000 watt. It's a special order item through most stores. 3600 rpm input, but I don't know what the rotation is.

Keith, I assume you are referring to THIS GENERATOR, If so, did you download the MANUAL for it? From the photo in the generator manual showing the belt drive hook up to an engine, it should work fine on a Cub Cadet. But then I could be missing something.

1650 cub cadet with dual hydraulics and customer rear hitch, early anniversary gift for the wife! Unfortunately previous owner decided that he liked RED colored tractors.

It has a solid 44" deck, and has cleaned up nicely. Previous owner also fabricated the custom hitch that looks like it could pull bulldozers out of mudpits. Also put in some customer louvres in the sidepanels. More pics to come! Yes I know somebody violated this fine piece of machinery, but it needed rescued and I'm pretty sure I overheard my wife say she really wanted a 1650!

ROB - Just consider the red 1650 a "Pre-Production one-cyl. 682". I actually like the red tractors better.

Kraig,
That's it. I hadn't gone to the website, just saw it in the ad they mail out. Would rather find a dead one and steal the generator part before ordering this one though. I can buy used, running generators around here for $300 after the ice storm of 2007.

Rob,
Strip that thing down to it's schivies and put some yellow and white on it, quick!!!!!!! Poor thing.

Jerry B,
How's your red one coming? I bet if it was Y&W you could get it running quicker!!!! hahahaha

Speaking of weather,
It got rather chilly this morning up my way as you can see from the ICE in the birdbath.

On a warmer note.
The new 13 fin 169 that was delivered yesterday was a nice surprise, especially when I put a new battery in and it fired right off.
It did blow the end of the muffler out about 20 feet though, LOL

Charlie, what's up with those tiny front wheels/tires??? That sure looks strange... oh and BURRR!
