I can vouch for those stabilizer plate setups on the elderly Y-hitch design. They help! I plowed at Montrose MN last fall with a Brinly 10" plow on the y hitch - behind my 782. I could bury the plow to the top of the moldboard and the tractor would barely grunt!

Today we tried to mount my Haban sickle mower on the 73 for the first time. Got the front portion mounted in position on both sides (to the axle)... BUT we're having difficulty mounting the rear portion. We inserted the rod in the proper location and tried to secure it to the rear hitch plate. In order to secure it to the hitch plate the rod still needs to move up about three inches higher in the vertical direction....but it won't budge because the brake adjustment bolt on the tractor is making contact with the belt guard (as shown in the photos below). We are certain we have the front of the mower mounted correctly; we would have the same problem had we mounted the rear portion first. Stumped about this...Any ideas?

Also, we're missing the drive belt that attaches the main mower drive pulley to the PTO. Does anyone know the correct belt size?

Steve S - hope someone can help you out with the mounting for that Haban sickle mower. I never mounted one but sorta remember them using a rubber strap at the rear or something and possibly some type of extension on the pipe - but that's from memory of just looking at a couple.

Brian E - dang it, waiting till tomorrow. When you remove your points to install the new pushrod suggest you do it with the "S" or "SP" mark directly in your timing site hole. I'll bet that's the position your points need to be open for gapping.

Also, the CPE-2 Parts Catalog has Section A thru K with no "I" section. I have it in paper copy along with the TC-157 Parts Catalog for Tractor Serial No.s 400,001, thru 665,000 whiich is basically the W/F including Quiet Line series (plus surprisingly a few of the Cadet lawn tractors). In my view it's like having 1/2 a Bible (The New Testament) and you got the other 1/2 (The Old Testament). I sure do like having it in paper but would like to have it both ways, but honestly it's to big to be scanning and making files.

@Harry: Sweet, so I'm only missing E,F,K, which I believe are the grinder / snow thrower / ???

I can't wait for the parts to come so I can putz around after work =)

I have the TC157 loose leaf I got (screwed) off of you know where, and found out too late all the GD tractor sections are missing! Got a nice binder though.

Ya gotta watch everything these days. Saw another or sale but the guy said he didn't have time to go through it all to see if it was complete!

@Harry: Thats a great idea... I was actually wondering about the ideal flywheel placement when setting the gap, that makes perfect sense and I'll ensure I do just that...

I'll try to get a little video together too of the linkages so we can debug that as well once the timing step is done...

Meanwhile, my 2146 is a constant reminder of why I CANNOT wait to get my 124 going strong...

I went out and picked up the 4V Ryobi Headphone set from Home Depot:

...to keep my ears from exploding... They work AMAZINGLY well at not only blocking loud tractor sounds but also toddler and infant shrieks/screams/whining

Steve S., what model Haban sickle mower do you have? Do you have the manual? I believe for a 73 you would want the Haban model 402-D. Hopefully Art Aytay will see your post. He has/had a 72 with a Haban sickle mower.

Steve S.
I don't have many pics on this puter. I can check later and get some detailed pics. I think on my 72 something hits in that same area, but not all the time. Just on rough terrain.
Here's a couple pics of mine.
