The ad said "steering broke". That was the truth! Anybody want to take a shot at how the bottom got broken out of this steering box? My first thought was frozen water, but

The 1100 is shaft driven to a right angle gear box then belt driven thru a belt tightening clutch, to a Peerless transaxle, like the models 482 and 582 Special. It does not have the same kind of tranmission/rear end that your 128 has, and is not as robust as the other Cub Cadets

This isn't the way I thought it would turn out, but the Hampster became a doner tonight. (Ya gotta hang 'em to skin 'em, don'tcha)?

Oh my, some pictures appeared like magic. OK, Dennis I agree, those gears look like gray iron.

I've been puzzled why balance gears should fail. They just sit there and spin without any load. On needle bearings no less.

PM gears might fail without reason, made to crack. But it must be something else.

...and here's the donee. He'll look better after Don T. comes over with his paint gun and leftover paint.

Lee E.-

I can think of a few reasons. For one, those gears have a pretty rough surface finish to them, so they are covered with stress risers. Spinning them results in internal stresses, and over time, they will fatigue and cracks will develop. I had one motor in which the needle bearings had gone bad and were wobbling all over.

I need an oil seal for the Danco UD-6 creeper on my Original. Does anyone know if and where parts can be obtained ?}}

Frank,

Someone used too big a hammer trying to remove the steering wheel, not enough penetrating oil, and not enough pressure against the backside of the wheel.

It is the result of frustration, I know first hand.

I'm new here, this forum is a little different than what I'm use to. Hope I'm using it right.

My name is Toby, I live in Eureka, KS. I'm a Lawn-Boy guy..but I have a couple of those yellow Lawn-Boys, lol. That's why I'm here. They are models 3314 and 3323. Let's see if I can get pics to work on here. Here's my Youtube channel as well http://www.youtube.com/user/tgore3
