None of my 2 125s or my 2 105s or several parts 1x4/5 chassis have the spring on the PTO handle.
 
Kraig - Oh Great One Keeper of the Photos - as long as we're talking about springs for the PTO engagement lever/handle, I wondered if you could search your files for more pics. I know it's not in the parts look up but I've had at least 3 or 4 units that had an additional spring from the handle to the lower part of the dash pedestal. It was a spring about 4 inches long, and kept light tension on the handle when it was in the forward/engage position - I think it was there to keep the handle from rattling. I initially thought it was a PO mod the first time I saw one, but after I picked up a few other units I thought it was a possible IH suggestion, and now my son recently had a unit with the spring there. The parts look up doesn't show it on any models. Maybe Charlie has a Bulletin about it, but he has to search thru paper in his spare reading time sittin by the fire place on those cold nites in the northern tundra.

(Wayne - thanks for pointing that out. Ole Don started out with non-specific ducks, and I moved it up to geese, and then Don questioned them being Canadian geese. I would'a figured being from Nova Scotia he'd know. I can tell you the dang things seem to be coming thru my territory by the thousands, and leaving behind that long green things).
 
Marty,... gosh, your 70 sure is a nice restore! Absolutely amazing! I hope I can turn out paint that nice, because I love to paint these tractors!

My 72 1x4/1x5 series tractor has the 15 ga.compression spring{ih-133641-r1} on the engine driven power take off lever.

Q: I would like to know if anyone has ever wired a safety switch on the 70/100 models?

Q: How would that be done?

I know that safety switch is not original equipment on said models, but I feel its the right idea for me.
 
Hydro, after a quick perusal through my archives I do not see any photos showing a spring on the PTO handle. Just to help me look a little deeper, what model/series were these springs on?
 
KRAIG - 70/100,71,72. The parts look-up on the 104/124/105/125 show them also as item #5 but the description is the truss head pivot screw that's NLA and there's no part with the description of "spring".

So hard telling who or what is correct. But I know my 70 & 72 have a spring and work fine. With no spring I could see the lever bending, or the thin steel of the steering pedistal cracking, or the PTO lever not sitting over against the bracket with the stops.
 
Denny, wrong discussion... Hydro was referring to some sort of added on spring. I'm aware of the other spring on the PTO handle that is being discussed.

Ohhh. THAT spring... I've never seen a CC with that "other" spring.
 
Kraig, Oh Great One Keeper of the Photos - I wish I could remember exactly what models I had, but don't. I think the one my son had was a 102. I appreciate your effort and time, but it's probably not worth going to any extreme effort (I don't know how you worked your past miracles).

The 1X6/7 series had a spring on the PTO engagement lever/handle that was about 4 inches long, and kept light tension on the handle when it was in the forward/engage position just like you described. The PTO activation lever setup was changed significantly on the 6/7 series from what was on all previous models. The engagement lever was moved to the left side of the instrument panel tower and pivoted on a rod that ran through the tower and had a small lever arm attached to it on the right side to which the forward running PTO rod/turnbuckle assembly was attached along with the small tension spring (IH 489417-R1).
