Charlie, perhaps that would be for a wide frame axle into a narrow frame chassis?

Wyatt uses an axle from an MTD Cub Cadet, 1431, 1541, something odd like that. The steering arm is splined, 1" spindles, REAL Beefy casting, and the included tie rods are bigger too. Without any other changes it makes the tractor turning radius over a foot smaller in both directions.

Denny, that's the "super steer" mod using a 1541 axle per Ken U's suggestions.

Whoa! Need more info on that mod!

I was looking last night trying to figure out how to make the split brakes work.

Front axle upgrade:
This is the front axle for my project tractor. Right now it's 95% complete, just waiting on some misc. hardware to finish it off.

First off I started off with the axle out of an MTD Cub Cadet 1541. This is a very robust axle with 1" front spindles similar in construction to the old narrow frame front axle. Improvements over the narrow frame axle are (1) width, it's about 2 to 1.5 inches wider than the narrow frame piece (2) it has pressed-in bushings, once the holes are egged-out you don't replace the axle, you replace the bushings

(3) you'll never have to worry about that coiled spring pin working loose again, instead of that style connection it's got a fine spline with a 1/4" bolt to clamp it together and a hardened washer to retain it on top. It's not going anywhere for a long time! (4) it steers TIGHT, see the picture below, I'm still working on positioning the arm on the LH spindle to optimize turning radius but it's noticeably tighter. If my single-car garage was 4' wider I'd be able to do a U-turn in the garage.

The spindles are the same as those pictured here before (as in Dave Kirk's writeup) only mine are 5-bolt hubs. They're turned down 1/2" both sides to fit on the spindle. They've got a raised area of cast material on them that just lended themselves to be drilled and tapped for a grease fitting, so I did.

Here's where the grease hole comes out at an angle in between the bearing races.

Other than that, it's most of the same parts and as Dave Kirk did in his writeup.

Here's a couple more pictures showing installation on the tractor.

Rick, glad to repost other peoples work.)

Wyatt C. and Ken U. deserve the thanks for that mod.

Rick M.-

I think I figured out how to split the brakes, but I just haven't had the time to design/make the parts. I hope to have that on my 128 by this winter.

I am proud to be a new member of your forum. I have a 782D which I just purchased and let me tell you guys, it is in bad shape. But I see a positive future ahead. I am looking to do a complete rebuild which will take time but shouldn't be to hard. I have had several other Cub Cadets includeing a few 1650's, 782(gas), another 782D and a few newer ones. My question to all the pros out there is this. Where would be the best place to go to find all the parts new or used i don't care. Also where can I have the motor rebuilt or buy parts for that and maybe eevn a few extra goodies. Your help is greatly apprieciated and I anxiously await.

Nathanial, welcome!!! Do you see the colorful links at the top of the page? They would be your best source for new and used parts. As for where to have the 782D engine rebuilt, I bet there are a few guys here that'll be happy to share that info. Where in Wisconsin do you live? There are quite a few Wisconsin residents on the forum, myself included.

Nathaniel D. -

I would start by reading the FAQ at the link above, which covers most of what you ask, like parts, manuals and paint for rebuilding. Note that we have sponsors listed on this page that handle all manner of new and used parts.

Welcome Nate...

look at the top of the screen and you'll see some of the site sponsors. we high reccomend them, along with the rest of the guys here on the forum. If we don't know the answer, nobody does... They also have parts for sale on the classified page. i've bought stuff from madson's and are very helpfull. also, check out the FAQ's above, most questions have been answered there. Kraig is the keeper of the photos, and will have anything you need...

lastly, have fun doing it...

Bryan and Kraig beat me to it... i must type slow.....

Scott Thanks for the endorsment but my Cub Cadet diesel documentation is a bit lacking.(

I know this is slightly off topic, but this stuff was on a red 102 that I own. So my question is, what do they really belong to?

Matt, the seat back rest looks to be off of any IH farm tractor built during the mid 60's through the 70's. Steve B. and/or Denny or Ken U. will likely nail it down to the exact model and year. Same goes for the T/A emblem which looks to be from the older end of that range.

Wow! OK, this is crazy. I got to find something to stump Kraig on.
