Hey guys

i'm looking for a multimeter that will read rpm's for a 1 cylinder engine. Any favorites?

I bought a few different kinds of tacks to measure rps,but this is cats A$$ and works great. Just aply a small piece of tape on any moving part and point the D tack at it and get a good reading. I think I payed $8.45

BRUCE N - Broken key in my CC 72 took about a minute to pry out with a dental pick this past Monday. I have one wth apoint about an inch long and 1/32" dia bent about 60 degrees for the last 1/8 inch. Worked like a charm.

Just so you know, ALL CC keys are the same. Not sure if they're the same as ALL Farmall tractor keys but as soon as I find my stash of them I'll let you know.

To everyone who gave advice on the key stub extraction, thanks. I had already tried a few of your techniques (and a few of my own) and decided I needed smaller implements, so I stopped off at Harbor Freight for a set of small tweezers. The tweezers didn't really work, the key was broken below the surface. What did help was running the engine. After starting it with the other half of the broken key, the vibration would help shake the broken part of the key so that it was just about flush with the surface. If an attempt failed, the engine vibration would help pull it back down again. Finally, using a sewing needle, I was able to lever it past the last pin, and after a couple more tries, the stub just fell out. I found a replacement off of my junked 102, and that key fits snugly.

Finally found my "S" timing mark on my K181. Seemed to be easier to locate as the sunlight faded. Hoping to get some time tomorrow to install the new points and condenser. Am I correct that I should clean the new points before using them? Can I buy contact cleaner at my local parts store and spray them?

thanks donald

I am almost done with the engine. I would like the tach to set idle and high speed and to check timing at whatever optimum speed is.

I still have to strip and repaint the frame so I wont be installing the engine. Can I give it a test run by hooking the battery to starter/gen. direct? I have done this with a regular starter but I don't want to ruin my delco/remy.

Do any of you have the K181 spec 30564? PLEASE measure your dipstick. I can here all the smart comments now! Also get the number thats stamped on it.

According to the owners manual it should take 2.5 pints or 1.25 quarts of oil. I put 1 quart in and it registers over the full mark. I wonder if I have the correct dipstick.

As a humorous aside, I never really looked at the key, but I noticed something wasn't quite right with it.

By the shape, I'd say early Wheel Horse.....

Denny, the quietline used an indak key which is a different key than anything before it. I am not sure what an 82 series used as I have not owned one yet.
