A gentleman brought this 1200 by today wanting a tune-up. He bought it brand new and it's all original except he has painted the rear wheels and the back of the seat.

Marty- It came from your neck of the woods too.

I asked if the head had ever been de-carboned and he said no. It has always been sheltered and has gotten cleaned after every use. I told him it ticked me off a little because it looks better than any I have...but mine are all heavy workers.

Now I have a question about the 1200 I just posted. This gasket was between the carb and block and I have never seen an "exhaust type" gasket used there. There was a paper gasket between this gasket and the carb.

Is this a proper gasket for this application?

Nope, paper gasket material is correct.....probably using up old parts out of a Kohler gasket kit (they come with about 15 "extra" gaskets for various applications).....

That appears to be the expanded metal type of exhaust gasket. Makes me wonder how well that would actually seal on the carb/intake port. It also doesn't look as if it's been on there for any extended period of time. Could possibly be the reason why owner is requesting tune up.

I would reinstall carb on that exhaust gasket, see how she runs. Then instal proper gasket without any other tune up parts or changes and run her again just to see if that gasket was causing any problems.

I am my own worst enemy though.

Rear seat pan bumper for xx8/9, and
QL

Charlie, is the mystery piece the component for a model 71, goes in the dash tower and provides a soft cushion for the swept-back hood to rest on?

How about a hood bumper for a 70/100?

ironically, I was literally thinking of doing this myself today. Wait.... I'm on the same wave-length as Charlie???

I could use them for my 70 and 100 so the hood don't rattle so much.

Wow, that was quick. John and Steve's posts weren't there when I started typing...

Congrats Art! I remember those bumpers well, and were among the things I was excited to have in great condition, and not missing, when I bought my model 71 in the summer of '07 !

I thought there always was a plastic spacer between the carb and the engine on the Quiet Line models. I'm pretty sure my 1450 still has the plastic spacer in there, lol!

Also, planning on beginning the Kohler K301 engine clean up tomorrow for my 125.

Try to stay cool guys!

Wayne,

Yes, that is close by. The business is no longer open though.
That is one clean tractor!
What kind of setup is on the rear?

John L.

That is correct, the quietlines use a thick gasket, it is a sliver of gasket material on each side, and a plastic type center. I just put on on a 1650 I rebuilt the carb on that came from Charlie a few weeks back....

We're going to recycle Charlie's gift pack. Get this answer correct, and I'll have him send the T-shirt and hat to you!

When this piece spins round and round, what model snow-thrower would I be using, and where does this piece go?
(You gotta get BOTH answers correct to win)
