Thanks guys for the input about the gasket.

Scott-

I had no idea the QLs used a special laminated carb gasket. Apparently the paper separated from the center material perfectly and that's what threw me off.

Marty-

I figured that business was long gone. Another hint was the lack of the area code in the phone number. The fixture on the back of the 1200 is part of a leaf vac system.

The owner started the tractor while here to show me some of the problem. It wouldn't idle at all and upon tearing it down I noticed the fuel line was a tad short and rubbing the throttle lever to the point there was a shiny spot in the rubber. The idle screw stop was also bottomed out completely which I've never seen. He stated that someone "tuned" the carb recently but the bowl gasket looks well used and there was considerable debris/trash in the bowl. I think it will be an easy fix.

Now, I'd like some opinions. Since the owner has never had the head de-carboned I was planning on getting that done but if it runs well with no smoke after the carb fix would ya'll do the head? I was also planning to check/lap/adjust the valves and replace the points. All of that is so much easier with the engine on the bench. It IS a QL and I keep thinking...if it ain't broke don't fix it. It's not a matter of laziness here; it's a matter of keeping costs down. The owner lives about 1 1/2 hrs away so I might just do everything to make sure no return trip will be necessary.

Any input???

Hint to Art's challenge.

KEYWORDS- "what model snow-thrower would I be using"

The piece doesn't go on a thrower.

Could be several different snow-thrower models.

Input shaft used in reduction housing for gear drive Cub Cadets.

Part# IH-126468-C1 or IH-384710-R1 Use 717-3073

Marlin, I wouldn't pull the head if they're countin' pennies.. IF it isn't puffin' smoke.

Charlie, I swear on a stack of Bibles, the model 71 I had came with those hood bumpers. My model 72 has the bumper strip, and though I realize the differences between the two models, I'm sure the two different types of bumpers could have been used!

Love the prize challenges going on! It's very fun to play, and learn about these IH Cub Cadet parts!

Jason, I have about 8 of those input shafts! Some are for pulling too! Thanks for the descriptions!

Lots of respect for these members here, such a nice place to be!

Thank you!!

I am in desperate need of help. I got a hold of a 106 last year. Ran great. Now I have a no start problem. It will not turn over with the key. I replaced the battery, bypassed the safety switch. I hooked a jump box to the starter generator. It will turn over but not fire. Can y'all help me out? I checked the harness, and I have continuity.

Curt H.
The first thing I would do would be to clean the connections at the switch and check to see if you have power to the switch.

The rule of thumb with these old Cubs is, the grounds and other electrical connections tend to loose grip over the years and need just as much attention as gas,oil and Hytran, LOL
