Al-

Let's continue this discussion where it probably belongs, which isn't the classifieds section.

Front spindles ,If kine had grease fittings they must have broken off lol I'll clean them up and take a look .as far as parts all I see is a bushing aND bolt.I was thinking more on the lines of upper/lower bearing w/seals or maybe even a sealed set .I'm enjoying this lil yellow monster .lol just not very familiar with it yet . I've had it a year just moving trailers around with it,pulling downed trees etc. Now like I said earlier it needs TLC.lol<!-/quote-!>

Yes, you need to clean it up and put in some new grease fittings. Remove the spindle bolts and clean everything up. The bolt is inside of a sleeve, and the bolt clamps the spindle to the sleeve, and the whole thing rotates as one in the axle. When this is lubricated properly, it is very easy to steer. When the spindles don't get greased, the sleeves get stuck in the axle casting bores, and then the spindles pivot on the bolt.

I don't understand why you want to re-invent the wheel here. If the spindles are assembled properly and kept greased, steering will be easy (assuming the rest of the steering system is in good condition) and the spindles will be trouble-free. Unless you bore the axle for a full length bushing, you'll reduce the bearing area, and you don't need seals because greasing the spindles regularly pushes the dirt out.

Matt,

Thank you for the tip about the front spindle knuckle bushing, when we were talking about the difficult steering with my 1650.

I also have something else to add to check, because this is what I found when looking at the bushings like you described below...

Not only make sure the bushings are free to move in the axle, but also make sure they are tightened down properly. When I took mine apart, the nut and bolt were so tight it took the air impact gun to get them apart. A PO had tightened the bolt in the bushing so tight, the top and bottom part of the "C" was actually rubbing on the axle casting. When tightening the bolt appropriately, just to be tight on the bushing, my steering effort was substantially reduced.....

When the spindle contacts the axle casting, simply take the grinder and flap wheel to the top of the axle, remove a bit of the cast shoulder, and reassemble. Not having the spindle bolt tight is what causes the spacers to stick and the steel spindles to wear out the holes.

Good morning folks . I believe I've discovered what the hardest part to find is .a 54inch deck "cover".lol .found new and used decks .no covers .I'm thinking Arcrylic .lol

Al,

Based on your 77 1450, I assume you are looking for the blade cover for a 44 or 50 inch deck. They are measured in actual width of cut at the blades, not overall width. Post the deck serial number and we'll help you ID it.

44 and 50 covers should be out there used without too much hassle.

Thanks. Already due to help from you folks I have found nearly every part I feel it needs to bring it back to its. Mechanical strengths . 4 ga. Starter wire upgrade ,diff. gasket ,spindle kits and wheel bearings ,choke cable ,tires ,hyd.lines.amd pivote pivote pin n bushing .lol then onto implementation and beautification .lol

Ok it's a 44in.deck looks huge to my other 44 in deck on my barn find Lowes/MTD mower.lol. I'll try and posT pic of plate .

44's are pretty common....there is a cover out thee for you somewhere!
