Tom, Chris E. beat you with a post of that info. See his post in the "Archive through January 11, 2010" page.

I did recognize Brad's red custom "1466" Cub Cadet in the photos.

Jeff, not a good idea to power wash a hydro.

JEFF B. - I've had good luck cleaning hydros with Gum-Out foaming engine cleaner, spray it on, let it sit for a while, warm hydro works better, or a real hot sunny day, then flush off with garden hose.
Then do a Hy Tran fluid & filter change.

Pressure washers have such high pressure they can blow water under the lips of oil seals and MANY other places You don't want water & detergent.

I took an hr and did some looking for the V61s, and as it turns out there is a dealer in Quebec . so I sent and email for 2 tires and tubes and shipping to me. Now we will have to compare prices. I`ll post there return price.

Jeff, On the top of the piston, usually near the center, there may be markings. If you see a STD that means it is probably the original piston. If you see .010 or .020 It has been rebuilt at on time or another. Also remember when you first start it up, let it warm up and then shut it down and let it cool completely, and then re-torque the head. Very important.

Josh...."my7 tri-ribs "

Do you mean 7 rib turfs or tri-ribs ? If it's the turfs I agree with the snow part, tri-ribs though give me excellent steering in snow. The only time they slide on me is if I have a full blade of heavy snow then I get pushed sideways some on hard pack.

I am putting my 12 HP k301 back together and i have another clearance question.
Per the manual, the end gap on the piston rings (inside the bore) should be from .010 to .020. The compression ring and the second ring are in the tolerance but the oil ring is about .025 to .026. Any comments on if this is OK or if it will be a problem.
Thanks for any info
Earl LaMott

OK guys,
It's now officially cub season! With deer season and the holidays out of the way, I can get back to restoring my 70. Here's a few photos of my progress. Don't laugh, I'm just getting started! LOL.

Earl, is it a 3 piece ring? How'd you measure that? The oil rings I've delt with were like a spring with a flat ring on top and bottom. You can't really measure it in the bore or on the piston cause of the way it is. Compressing it between the groove in the piston and the cylinder is what sets it's tension.

Earl. when they are talking about ring end gap they are talking about the compression rings which are the top two. the oil wiper rings are usually ok and should not be a problem.

Kevin and Dave:
Thanks for the info regarding end gap on the piston rings.
By the way the manual is written, I read it to be all 3 rings. That is the problem with being green at this. I am getting close to done.
Thanks
Earl

Paul F.and Matt Thanks for the info I'll check the shaft. That will be a start.I do notice the driveshaft wobbling.

Earl, I just went and looked at the parts breakdown and it showed a one piece oil ring.
Do you have the one piece oil ring?

I have a 100 with the original K241AS. My question is about the exhaust pipe, it only threads in two or three threads. I am using a 1" NPT nipple, are these the correct threads?

Ryan:
Those ARE pipe threads... First, make sure that the threads in the jug are clean, no carbon in them... If the nipple that you are using is new, be aware that a lot of current pipe products coming from China may have fit problems - remember that pipe threads are tapered; if they didn't run the die on far enough, the smallest part of the taper (the end of the pipe) may still be a larger than standard diameter. Try more nipples, see if you can find one with smaller diameter on the end.. (I await the emails....
