Is there any rime or reason to the model number on these Cub Cadets? Maybe chart or a legend on what the model numbers mean?
What the difference between a 126 and 127 or a 70 and 100 or 782 or 982? for example.

CHARLIE - My 982 is a CUB CADET, serial tag says IHC, Chicago, IL. just like My 70 & 72, They've always been legal to discuss before.....Only lawn tractors, diesel's and 1100's & 582 "Specials" were off topic.

KRAIG - Don't get Me wrong.....My last LP gas fill 12-23-08 was 385 gal @ $1.999/gal. I'd like to heat with wood if I could get the trees cheap & easy enough. My Buddy has wood furnaces in both His house & shop, shop is 24 X 32, two-story, pool room, bedroom, bathroom upstairs. Including running His water heater, dryer, gas stove, etc. plus His natural gas furnace in the house occasionally I bet His gas bill isn't but $200-$250 per year. Mine is $2000..... Like You he spreads the work out over the year. One big tree is enough wood for both buildings for the winter, typically fells the tree, cuts the limbs to length and uses a farm tractor mounted splitter right there and hauls split wood to His shop or Dad's barn. Next year's tree is already laying on the ground drying, and Winter '10/'11's tree has been found. His Parent's had two really BIG, 100+ yr old Oak trees damaged by high winds this summer...so He's got some extra wood to burn if He needs it this winter. Storm was in July but it's still not season'd enough to use quite yet.....maybe in a couple more months.

Brennan Click on FAQ at the top of page,--then click on My serial Number is --------, then click IH Cub Identification Page , this will give you the differances and years they were built.

Ok Charlie, you have me confused.

If I want to discuss my IH built 982 (Aug 1980), your saying it should be done in the CC/MTD forum, what am I missing?

Jim

I think a few folks forget that not all IH built cub cadets were yellow and white! Its all in good fun anyways. Cheers Mikie

BRENNAN - Yes there is....actually pretty easy to understand. The first Cub Cadet, made in 1961,'62, &'63 are referred to as "Originals" or simply "Cub Cadets" The 70 & 100 was next, similar, almost identicle tractors except for 7 or 10 HP engines. Next was 71,102, 122, 123. 71 was 7 HP gear drive, 102 & 122 10 & 12 HP GD, 123 was 12 HP hydro, the first Hydro CC. Next was 72/104/105/124/125; 7HP GD, 10HP GD, 10HP Hydro, 12HP GD, 12HP Hydro. Next was 73/106/107/126/127/147. Same thing, 7HP GD, etc. etc plus a new 14 HP Hydro added to the line. Next was 86/108/109/128/129/149/169. Wide Frames, room for bigger engines, so the 7 HP became a 8 HP GD, plus a new bigger 16 HP Hydro added. Next was 800/1000/1200/1250/1450/1650 Quiet Lines. XX00 = GD, XX50= Hydro, first numbers are HP,8,10,12,14,16.
Next are 1282,482,582,682,782&982. This gets harder, 1282 was 12HP Hydro, 482 was 11HP GD, 582 was 16 HP GD, 682 & 782 were 17HP Hydro, but 782 had hyd. lift. 982 was 19.9 HP hydro.

With this info and the chart on the home page of this forum You should be able to figure out the relative ages and features of different model CC's.

O-K Charlie.....I know that other company over by the swamp north-west of MILWAUKEE used a lot of Onan's too. Not one of IH's better ideas to use them in a CC I know. I don't think it's so much how THIN the air is in northern MN, it's how COLD the air is.
Thermometer said 32-33 degrees all night here around Madison, temp's dropped to 21 already. Supposed to warm up and snow more tomorrow....Good thing.....We're down to only about 6-8 inches left on the ground.....and drifts 4-5 feet high! And piles 6-8 ft high.

im not sure if this is off topic or not but can someone post some info about Lo-boys... if thats how you even spell it? what years did they look the most like over grown cubs? (yellow and white)

MATT - Lo-Boys are probably supposed to be in the CC's Larger Relatives forum. But the 154,184,185 are the one's Your thinking of....think they were made around the time the 72/104/105/124/125's were made, '68 thru '71

Hey Guys, I have another question about my 106. I was wondrin how you can get dual exhaust on it, what materials i need to do it?

dennis thanks i searched for those, and its not what im thinking of, the one im thinking of looks like an over grown original... wish i had a pic

CORY - Bryan McMeen put duals on one of His Cubbies, I know there were pic's, Maybe someone can dig them up. Dad made "Duals" for Our CC 70 back when it was almost new, used VW Beetle resonators...NO, Not the new one.....the OLD one they made for forty years until the late 1970's. A 1" NPT pipe street elbow, a couple 1" NPT pipe nipples, and a 1" TEE, some big 1-1/4" electrical conduit that just fit very snuggly over the VW resonators, and maybe 10 minutes with the welder and "DUAL STACKS".

STEVE - Where's all the snow? Scene out My 'Puter room window looks more like Charlie's pic than Your's?!?! Nice tractor!

MATT - During the production of the Cub and Cub LoBoy there were three different designs for the sheetmetal. I think the version Your thinking of/looking for is about the last one made just before the 154's. Would have been the first Farmall Cub painted yellow/white. Vintage would be from about '63 to '67?
