I hope I did not forget anyone;SO instead of going out in my cold Cub storage shed and removing the carb off the 129 loader. I thought I would go to town and get the Gunk Carb cleaner.Well I went to Canadian tire and 6 other car part suppliers and NO ONE has the gunk or any other brand of carb cleaner in a can with the basket. They sell 4 liter plastic containers like windshield washer fluid. And no one has the screw drivers that Charlie says I should get. Just a big waste of my time and diesel.

Steve, Tom is right, don't keep us waiting

Not quite in my possession yet.......but it does have 3 speeds forward, 1 reverse, 1 extra in each gear and 16hp......

Hint (I think) On the 18th. Steve said, " I do miss my gear drive 582, what a fun machine......" So I'm thinking a yellow 582 from a nearby town in Illinois.

All this talk made me buy another also. I was out taking a engine hoist back to a family friends house and I saw a original sitting in the weeds behind a house, on the way back I stopped and asked about it and the man asked what I thought it was worth I said you tell me he then asked if I would pay $25, I went and got the trailer and bought it home. My original intention after getting a close look at it was to part it out and keep the oil-bath air cleaner for my 62 original, but with a rebuilt carb, some starting fluid, new points, batt and a rope it started! It smokes some on throttle up and the motor has a little noise, but the clutch worked really good and the front tires even hold air. It looks like the po got the engine from something red and didn't have a basket pulley for the s/g so it was set up to rope start, and it looks like he was in the process of converting it back to s/g when he left it. Aside from po mods its a pretty straight cub no extra holes anywhere, just welds from the "custom" rear wheels.

Lucas - dang, that's a great find. Looks pretty decent. Never seen a po mod with that type of on/off switch.

Bill J - hey, to many belts on those red things you posted (even tho the tractors do look nice).

Don T - oh Don T, oh Don T - ya forgot me, and now you're just wasting time. Get that dang carb off the 129 and see if that dang 12hp is gonna run correct!!!! Then you'll know (and 1000 other guys and gals on here will know) if it truly is a carb problem. Charlie's in line to collect his winnings to.

Looks like there is some serious tilting to the GEAR DRIVE side of things here as of late.

Are some of you guys going back to your IH Cub Cadet "roots"

Don T,

Check with your local Wally World (Walmart) as they carry gallon (or is it Liters in Canada) cans of Gunk carb cleaner in the Automotive section here in the states.

JIM, DON - I've bought those screw holding screwdrivers at Sears too. They have had two styles, probably three because the two different styles I have are different than the type Charlie posted pic's of. My oldest set have little stainless steel spring "Fingers" to capture the head of a slotted screw. They didn't work real well, especially on smaller screws. The other style had a spring-loaded part in the center of the straight blade that turned and wedged into the slot when you released the top part of the handle. That worked really well, as long as the slot of the screw was in good shape. It came with a screw holding driver for Phillips head screws too. It had two spring loaded "V" shaped bits that went into the "X"-shaped recess of the screw, and it also worked pretty well.

But actually, the best way to hold the points & points cover on a Kohler is with Allen head screws and use an Allen wrench. Or TORX head screws work good too.

Dennis - if you're gonna use an Allen or TORX head screw then you better have a magnetic wrench to hold the screw to the driver especially on a Quiet Line. With my shaky hand when I try to put the screw thru that hole in the frame to install the lower screw for the points cover, I seem to bump the frame and the dam-gum screw drops right down between the frame and the ISO-bar, and it's the biggest pain in the _ _ _ _ to get it out.

Tom H - not that I've noticed. Hydro Members still out number Gear Grinder Members 9:1 (based on the total number of tractors owned - and I know Charlie can confirm it if he wants to)

Don T - it's been 4 hours since your last post. I could have installed the carb from the 129 onto the 125 4 times by now (except the linkage and fuel inlet is different).

Kraig

send me the link to send you some video ! Dang carbs can be stubborn . It does run now. If you hear it run : then you will want one.

Well it appears I do have one of them screw drivers that you all talk about. It had two fingers to hold a screw to start them. I have never used it. As long as you can move a screw backwards to thread tight and see it bump. Then you don`t need that extrat tool Charlie says I should have.

Harry B - I don't want to get sideways with my IHCC Brethren, but I'm thinkin' that other color tractor only has one belt - sorta, kinda like an Original???

BACK ON TOPIC!!!!!!

Scratching around in the box under the seat pan on the 126 last night - seeing if a battery would fit in there, beneath the build-up of dirt was this:

except for the Original , the first attempt for IH to built a garden tractor. Ih did a lot of things correct.. drive shaft is way better than belt drive.Way Better ...Credit where credit is due.Sory I`am so happy . my 125 will be a beast lol.

This is the type of locking screwdriver I use. Short and skinny can get into tight places.

Don "T",
I think you should drop kick that old carb as far as you can. Looks like you're good to go!
