Can someone tell me if it's difficult to swap out the cast iron front portion of a hydro?

Jeremiah,

The u-joints on your new thrower are out of phase. They will likely knock and hammer when run up to speed.

As you go through it to get it running, pull the slip yoke apart and realign the joints so that the "forks" at each end are in the same plane.

Good eye, Mr. Plow!!

Steve "Mr. Plow" Blunier --I second Scott: good eye! Yokes will be back in time for the next photo.

Dennis --The exterior QA42 is very weathered, I believe it is the color of rust that you are noticing.

Kenneth & Dennis: Thanks for the info on the decks. If the 44A is a "good running deck," does that mean the 42" deck is not work fixing up? I'm planning to put the 44A in my 782 which currently is fitted (?) with an MTD deck (from an MTD mower, not an MTD Cub Cadet). The deck cuts well, but it has almost no adjustment, and it doesn't "look right" if you're familiar with Cub Cadets.

The 42" deck is certainly heavy gauge construction, that's for sure. I thought I could refurbish it and install it on the Model 149. Even if it isn't "correct" it would still be recognizable as a Cub Cadet part.

Or, are you telling me that no matter which deck I install on the 782 it would still be "wrong" and the only way to have a correct "match" would be to install the 44A on the Model 149?

Jeremiah,
I would worry about the "Correct Police" visiting your place and checking to see if it's within "code". If it works for you and keeps the $$$ amount down, go with it! JMHO

Got a package from Aaron at xtreme today. Love it, Love it, Love it. Thanks again Aaron. Top of the line can't wait to get it dirty!!!

That guy Aaron does make some fine attachments . His attachments are top rate . I was not unhappy with my dealing with Aaron ,The more I use my Cat O the more I can`t believe I did anything before I had it to use. He does make a dump trailer , that, I will own some day. I could haul some fire wood with that.

You have a plate to drill and add a 3" hard bolt so you can add weight and float to get a cut on hard soil. Nice design.

Cub Cadet 125 rebuilt motor/generator new voltage regulator charges fine when cold but discharges once engine is hot. Any idea what could be the problem?

TOM H. - Opps... Looks like the Correct POLICE are out! HI KRAIG!

JEREMIAH - I agree with Tom, but if you are going to swap decks around, I'd put the new 44" on the 782 and the 42" on the 149. Now that assumes you have the proper mule drives to attach those decks, or can find them.

I tried really hard to get my 44" deck under my CC 72 which had a 38" version of your 42" deck. Short of cutting and welding the mule drive there was no way to make the 44" deck work on the older style mule drive.

I used to be a member of the correct police back when this forum was all about finding out how our beloved Cub Cadets were originally put together. Well, perhaps it's better stated that I was a member of the correct investigators, looking and learning what part was painted what color, where holes should be drilled to mount a certain accessory, where wires should be routed and so on. I'm not gonna rip on anyone for their Cub Cadet not being correct, unless they ask how something should be, then I'll offer that info if I know it.

Its nice to know, how and what they were built with when ! !

Dennis --Well, that brings up another topic.

I got two mule drives in the deal, plus the one that is currently on the "confuguliated" 782 (it was modified for the MTD deck). The local dealer was never able to positively identify the mule drive on the 782, even after I brought it in to him.

I know that the one currently installed on the Model 149 fits the 44A deck, I took it off myself.

I'll take some pictures of the loose mule drive tonight and post them tomorrow. I'll also make sure that it at least "hooks up" to the 42" deck.

I think wide frame lawn tractor ( Cub ) deck attachments are much the same. Use ether deck on each if you want to. I`am going though this also. what deck to put with what tractor ? The info is here depending on who you poke.I believe some Cubs used an off center bracket for the mule drive on some Cubs. I have a 42" to put on a 125 and see what it will do. I think it depends on how much you have to turn the wheel and what speed you cut at.I need some seat time lol.

KRAIG - Where were You and this forum back in the spring of 1990 when I repainted my 129 and couldn't find ANY pictures of a 1X8/1X9 in ALL my stuff to know what color to paint the tunnel cover & steering console?

I guessed wrong, I painted them yellow to match the similar parts on my 72.

It didn't look bad, was a "35" paint job, looked great in pictures and 3-5 feet away, or 35 MPH driving by.

I remember about the first discussion I saw here on the forum was about installing an amp gauge on a CC. The included IH instructions showed mounting it right dead center on the side of the steering console closest to the operator at the top edge of the steering console. DAD & I looked at that location and decided it was a bad bloody accident waiting to happen back in about 1967. We put it on the 70 on the left side up towards the top edge back from the hood about an inch. When I fixed up my 72 in '81 I put it down on the side about 6-8 inches from the top surface to protect the gauge more.

Dad's '63 vintage CC and the '65 #70 were both bought brand new. I thought it was interesting that BOTH had paint runs or splashes of the wrong color on the tractor. I forget what the problem with the 70 was but the '63 CC had white paint dripped down the left side from the battery box and puddled on the frame. Might have been "Dealer Installed" too.

JEREMIAH - The mule drive from the 149 should fit the 782. The only issue with running the 44" deck on the 782 is the PTO drive pulley is wider and should have a wider belt than the PTO pulley on the 149. If you put a center driven pulley with the top pulley being for a 5/8" wide belt (the double pulley) on the deck it should work fine.

The mule drive for the 42" deck should have straight bars over the deck from the pivot for the scissors link that lifts the frt of the deck. The mule drive for the 44" deck will be bowed up over the deck.

Denny, back in 1990 I'd never even heard of an Original or a 1x8/9. I only knew of the 72, the 125 and the 2072. As to factory paint runs, this is the original skid plate from the 125 my parents bought new, the paint runs are factory original. When I get around to refurbishing the #1 125 I'll be sure to include some paint runs, I know I included some on my Original when I painted it.

Kraig,
Now I don't feel so bad about my paint jobs! I have a few minor runs too. That stuff happens when you get in a hurry.
Mine are not quite as bad as the bottom picture you posted. Whoever painted that must have done it around 4:55 PM on a Friday!

Tom and Kraig,
Wow! That's going back, looking at the pics of the Leo scraper. Leave it to Kraig to find those pics at his fingertips.
Weather man says we typically get 8 more inches of snow from Valentines day til spring.
